Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Barbarians who walk the Path of the Sugar Rush embrace a dangerously artificial frenzy—one that surges through their body like liquid lightning. Whether born of alchemical sweets, enchanted syrups, or a culture that venerates excess and indulgence, their rage manifests not as steady fury, but as a volatile spike of energy. Their hearts race, their thoughts scatter into rapid clarity, and their bodies move faster than they were ever meant to.

In the throes of this saccharine rage, these barbarians become relentless forces of overstimulation. Their attacks land in rapid, unpredictable bursts, overwhelming enemies not just with damage, but with debilitating effects—shaking focus, sapping coordination, and leaving foes sluggish or disoriented, as if caught in the aftermath of a sudden crash. To fight a Sugar Rush barbarian is to be dragged into their tempo, then left reeling when it becomes too much to keep up with.

Yet this power is fleeting—and costly.

The same surge that fuels their dominance inevitably collapses. When the rush fades, the barbarian is left hollowed out, their energy drained, their limbs heavy, and their reactions dulled. This crash can leave them exposed at the worst possible moment, forcing them to weigh each use of their power carefully. Masters of this path learn to ride the edge of excess, choosing precisely when to indulge in overwhelming force and when to hold back, lest they burn out too soon.

Those who survive long enough to master the Sugar Rush become terrifying combatants—living peaks and valleys of motion and lethargy, embodying the thrill and danger of power taken too far.

Level 3: Sugar Rush

You have a pool of dice known as Sugar Rush. When you enter a Rage, gain a number of dice equal to your Strength Modifier. As a free action you may spend any number of these to gain 1 of the following benefits per dice spent. If you do not spend all of your pool during your Rage, the pool of dice remains until your next Rage. You lose all previous Sugar Rush when you Rage again.

  • Gain advantage on the next attack you make.
  • Add Force damage to your next attack equal to 1 roll of the Sugar Rush die you expended.
  • Gain additional movement speed for this turn equal to 5 times the roll of the Sugar Rush die you expended.
  • Give a creature you can see disadvantage on all saving throws.
  • Reduce a creature you can see’s movement speed for this turn by an ammount equal to 5 times the roll of the Sugar Rush die you expended.

When your rage ends, you feel the freest of a Sugar Crash. For every Sugar Rush die you expended during your Rage, the following effects take place.

1-2 = You have disadvantage of Dexterity based rolls.
3-4 = The effects of the previous Tier and halve your movement speed.
5-6 = The effects of the previous Tiers and disadvantage on Attack rolls.
7+ = The effects of the previous Tiers and you cannot use any modifiers and cannot take Reactions.

These effects last for 1 Hour or until you rest.

At Level 3 your Sugar Rush is a pool of d6s. These become d8s at 6th level, d10s at 9th level, d12s at 14th level and d20s at 17th level.

Level 6: Overdrive

While in Rage you enter the Overdrive state. You are immune to the Charmed and Frightened conditions. If you are under the Charmed or Frightened conditions when you enter a Rage, these conditions end. When you enter Rage, gain Temporary Hit Points equal to d6s rolled a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus.

Level 10: Glucose Grit

When a creature enters within 5ft of you, you may, as a Reaction, stop them from moving any further. You may also spend a Sugar Rush die in order to make an attack on them.

Level 14: Self of Syrup

As a Bonus Action, create a 20ft emanation with you as its centre and point of origin. All creatures of your choice within the emanation have their Movement Speed halved and cannot take Reactions whilst in the emanation. They must also make a Wisdom Saving Throw (DC= 10 + Your Proficiency). On a failed Save, that creature is Frightened. A creature repeats the Save at the end of each of its turns.

This ability cannot be used again until you take a Short Rest.
