Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Sorcerers are well known for there unique blood. But none so as the Sapphire Sorcerers. Their blood is not only extremely magical, but also extremely adaptable. Whenever a Sapphire sorcerer is attacked by a spell, monster attack or another ability. Their blood jumps into overdrive, trying to understand what it just experienced. This allowes the sorcerer to copy or absorb said occurence. In order to use it against the attacker or wreak havoc against future enemies.

Sapphire Secrets

Starting when you choose this origin at 3rd level, your unique physiology allows you to absorb and permanently learn to use spells and monster abilities. When you are the target of a spell or a monster’s non-weapon ability (the monster may not be a construct), you may use your reaction to attempt to learn the spell or ability.

Make a charisma saving throw. If the ability causes damage, the DC equals 10 or half the damage you take, whichever number is higher. If the ability does not cause damage, the DC equals 10 + the creature's proficiency bonus.

On a success, you may add the ability to your list of Sapphire Secrets as a "spell". You can learn up to four Sapphire Secret "spells" at 3rd level, and increase the number amount you can learn by 2 for every odd level in this class gained (two more at levels 5, 7, 9 ect). If learning a new "spell" would cause you to exceed this maximum, you may choose a older Secret you know and replace it with the new one. You may not learn an ability from a monster whose Challenge Rating exceeds your level in the sorcerer class. Finally you cannot learn lair or legendary abilities.

Level 3: Monstrous Resilience

Your exposure to all manner of creature has forever changed your body. Your blood has turned blue and carries monstrous energies which make you more physically capable. Your Hit Point maximum increases by 3, and it increases again by 1 whenever you gain another Sorcerer level. Additionally, your supernatural abilities give you strong natural defenses. While you aren't wearing armor, your base Armor Class equals 10 plus your Dexterity and Charisma modifiers.

Level 6: Absorb Essence

At 6th level, you gain the Absorb Essence ability. The Sapphire sorcerer can attempt to learn passive or defensive abilities from creatures by eating parts of them. Some 'Sapphires' eat the creature’s heart, others the brain. The specific part of the creature consumed doesn’t appear to matter, only that the Sapphire sorcerer believes the magic they wish to take lies within.

Consuming a corpse in this manner takes at least 10 minutes and requires you to spend 1 Sorcery Point. Make a Constitution saving throw, the DC for which equals 8 + the creature's proficiency bonus + the creature's Constitution modifier. On a success, you learn the ability as if it were gained with Sapphire Secrets. Otherwise you are sick and vomit up the corpse which is ruined.

You add this ability to your Absorb Essence table. Each passive ability costs 1 Sorcery Point to maintain, reducing the available Sorcery Points by that amount. These abilities are always ‘on’ and cannot be turned off to regain access to the reserved Sorcery Points. The Sapphire sorcerers form often changes to reflect the abilities learned. For example, if you gain the natural base armor of the Galeb Duhr, then your skin can take on a rocky appearance. You can only maintain a number of Absorbed essences up to your proficiency bonus.

Level 14: Sapphire Nullification

At 14th level, your numerous encounters with magical creatures and spell casters has given you the ability to quickly assess and counter the effects of a spell you can see. You always have Counterspell prepared. If you already know the spell, you learn a different spell from the sorcerer spell list. You may cast Counterspell without expending a spell slot once each day. You can also cast it by expending a spell slot as normal or by spending a number of sorcery points equal to the spell's level. You can only cast it using sorcery points once each day.

When countering a spell you may immediately use your Sapphire secrets feature to possibly learn the spell being cast.

Level 14: Sapphire Sense

At 14th level your ability to sense monstrous abilities and magic is heightened. You may use your Sapphire Secrets ability whenever you or an ally you can see is the target of a spell or a monster’s non-weapon ability.

Also once every short rest when you try to learn a damaging spell or a monster’s non-weapon damaging ability and you calculate the DC to beat. You may (at the end of the calculation), reduce that DC by your number of levels in this class.

Level 18: Unbridled Secrets

At 18th level, passive abilities no longer reduce your sorcery points to maintain. Though you are still limited in the number of powers you can have. Your ability to learn Sapphire Secrets is no longer limited by CR. You may now also learn legendary actions.

Level 18: Immortal Essence

At 18th level, due to the countless abilities you have absorbed, you have basically become immortal. You no longer age, suffer none of the negative effects of old age and you can't be aged magically. You are also immune to diseases and can live off of the energy you absorb from other creatures. One absorbed ability sustenance you for an entire month (you don't need to learn this ability if you purely use it as a way to keep on living).
