Phoenix Soul

Sorcerer Origin for Sorcerer

You’ve always been a little different. Winters never bothered you and you would play outside in whatever clothes you woke up in, people grabbing door handles after you would burn their hands, or maybe your mother had to wear gloves when dressing cuts or scrapes.

However you grew up, one day your emotions sparked, and your magic manifested itself in a fiery passion. Your eyes now burn red, and your soul yearns for adventure to find out what other strange powers your blood or soul brings.

Phoenix Soul sorcerers sometimes do not know from where their power manifests. Stories of Phoenix are not that common, and the only information ever really known about them is their ability to rise again from their own ashes, so figuring out their special abilities can sometimes be an adventure in and of itself.

Cloth of Feathers

At 3rd level you have begun to learn how to manifest the fiery soul within you and project it outward. You can now dawn clothing of Phoenix feathers, showing the world what you really are inside.

You gain a piece of clothing made of Phoenix feathers. This can be a Cloak, a Mantle, a Hat, a pair of Gloves, or another article of clothing. This piece of clothing looks as though it is brittle and burnt but still has small embers peppering its surface.

While you wear this cloth, you gain resistance to fire damage and cannot be burned by non-magical fire. Additionally, you do not suffer exhaustion due to cold environments as your body radiates heat and can remain unprotected in temperatures as low as 0F without proper clothing.

Three times per long rest as a bonus action you can ignite this clothing for 1 minute. The feathers which cover it ignite shine with bright reds and crimsons. While this clothing is active, you gain the following benefits;

  • Creatures that hit you with Melee Weapon or Spell attacks take fire damage equal to your Charisma Modifier.
  • When you cast a spell which deals fire damage, if it scales with level, the spell is cast as though it was cast 1 level higher. Cantrips deal additional damage equal to your Charisma Modifier
  • You can double your Charisma Modifier when making Charisma (Intimidation) checks.
  • You shed bright light for 30ft, and dim light for another 30.

If ever this cloth is separated from you, as a free action you can call it back to your body wherever such clothing would be worn (A hat would manifest on your head while a shawl would manifest over your shoulders).

Emblazoned Magic

Fire burns deep within your soul. As it grows, you learn more about it, taking flight with your magical knowledge.

At 3rd level, you learn 2 additional spells, as long as they deal Fire damage. These spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and do not count towards your memorized spells. Whenever you gain the Ability score improvement feature, you learn 2 additional spells.

Growing Inferno

At 6th level, while your Cloth of Feathers is active, whenever you cast a spell which deals fire damage, you gain hit points equal to the level of the spell + your Charisma Modifier. Cantrips count as 0th level spells.

Phoenix Wings

At 6th level, you learn to manifest your inner phoenix soul, dawning a set of fiery wings.

As a Bonus Action, you can cause flaming feathered wings to appear on your back. The wings last for 1 hour or until you dismiss them (no action required). For the duration, you have a Fly Speed of 60 feet.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest unless you spend 3 Sorcery Points (no action required) to restore your use of it.

Destructive Force

The fire deep inside you burns with passion and desire. Nothing has felt your fire before and when you’re through, nothing ever will.

At 14th level, while your Cloth of Feathers is active, you ignore targets damage resistances to fire damage and immunities to fire damage instead half it.

Rise of the Phoenix

You have truly become a Phoenix in mortal form. You no longer fear death as it is merely a pause on life.

At 18th level when you fail your last death saving throw, your body turns into a pile of ashes and your equipment is left behind. If those ashes are collected and a fire or spark touches the ashes, they begin to smoulder and burn. Eventually your body rises up after 1 hour. You are resurrected at half Hit Points and have 1 level of exhaustion.

If more than one half of your ashes are ever separated from you, you will be unable to resurrect until they are brought back together.

Level 3: Emblazoned Resilience

The magic in your body manifests physical traits of your phoenix soul. Your Hit Point maximum increases by 2, and it increases by 2 whenever you gain another Sorcerer level.

Parts of you are also covered by phoenix like feathers. While you aren’t wearing armour, your base Armor Class equals 10 plus your Dexterity and Charisma modifiers.
