Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

When someone from the bayou has a good ol' alligator as their best friend.

Bayou Bestie

3rd-Level Gator Wrangler Feature

You gain proficiency in Animal Handling, and you add double your proficiency bonus to any Animal Handling checks you make related to alligators or any other creature found in the bayou.

Alligator Ally

3rd-Level Gator Wrangler Feature

When you adopt this subclass at 3rd level, you gain an Alligator Companion that will adventure by your side. Your Gator is friendly to you and your allies and obeys your commands. It uses the Gator Boi stat block.

In combat, the Gator acts during your turn. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but it only takes the Dodge action unless you use a bonus action to command it to take an action from its stat block, or another action. When you take the Attack action, you can command your Gator to take the Attack action in place of one of your attacks. If you are incapacitated, your Gator can take any action it chooses.

If your Gator falls to 0 hit points, it makes death saving throws as a player character would. If your Gator has died within the last hour, you can take a Magic action to touch it and expend a spell slot. The Gator returns to life after 1 minute with all its Hit Points restored. Whenever you finish a Long Rest, you can summon the Gator, which appears in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you. If you already have a Gator from this feature, the old one vanishes when the new one appears.

Swamp Stalker

7th-Level Gator Wrangler Feature

Your Gator has advantage on any saving throw it makes while within 30 feet of you. Additionally, your Gator's attacks can deal your choice of Force damage or its normal type.

Gator Grip. Medium and smaller creatures have disadvantage on Strength saving throws made to resist your Gator's grapples. At the start of each of your turns, your Gator can deal 1d4 + your proficiency bonus piercing damage to one creature grappled by it (no action required).

Gator Growl. As a bonus action, you can command your Gator Boi to emit a low-frequency growl that evokes fear from its enemies. Each creature of your choice that is within 60 feet of you and aware of you must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. A creature that fails becomes frightened of the gator for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature succeeds on its saving throw, the effect ends for it, and the creature is immune to the Gator's Growl for the next 24 hours. Once you use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.

Bond of Tooth and Scale

11th-Level Gator Wrangler Feature

Reptilian Resilience. The benefits of your Tireless feature also apply to your Gator.

Reptilian Rage. When you use your bonus action to command your Gator to use its Bite or Tail attack, it can make an additional Bite or Tail attack on that turn.

Reptilian Retaliation. The first time each turn it hits a creature under the effect of your Hunter's Mark spell, the Gator deals extra Force damage equal to the bonus damage of that spell.

Gator Gladiator

15-Level Gator Wrangler Feature

Big Boi. Your Gator Boi grows to Large size and can be used as a mount for creatures Medium size or smaller.

Death Roll. As a bonus action, you can command your Gator to perform a Death Roll against a creature it is grappling. The target must make a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC or take 8d6 bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. On a successful save, the target takes half damage and is not knocked prone. If the Death Roll takes place in water, the target has disadvantage on the save, and the attack deals an additional 2d6 bludgeoning damage (for a total of 10d6). You can use this action a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Shared Spells. When you cast a spell with a range of self, you can also target your Gator with the spell if it is within 30 feet of you.
