Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Be One With Magic

Your magic manifests as an almost synaesthetic sensitivity to the weave. Where a wizard dissects a spell intellectually, you feel the pattern of it — the tension, the release, the shape it carves through the weave. When you witness a spell, something in you recognizes it the way a musician recognizes a chord progression. Your recognition of this pattern allows you to not only replicate it, but to also improve upon it.

Level 3: Arcane Imprint

When you witness a spell of 5th level or lower being cast within 60 feet of you, you can use your reaction to attempt to internalize its magical pattern. Make an Arcana check (DC 10 + the spell's level). On a success, you learn the spell's name, school, and general effect. In addition, the spell becomes one of your Active Imprints. You may have a number of Active Imprints equal to your Charisma modifier + 2 (minimum 1). Active Imprints are added to your spells known and do not count against your normal spells known limit, even if they do not appear on the sorcerer spell list.

If you would gain a new active imprint while already at your maximum, you must deactivate one active imprint to make room. Deactivated imprints are not forgotten — they are stored in your Resonance Memory, an internalized record of every pattern you have ever successfully imprinted. During a long rest, you may freely swap any number of your Active Imprints for spells stored in your Resonance Memory.

You may attempt to imprint a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier per long rest (minimum 1). You cannot attempt to imprint the same spell more than once per long rest.

Level 3: Arcane Savant

Your innate bond with the Weave grants you an instinctive understanding of arcane forces. You gain proficiency in the Arcana skill. Additionally, you may add your Charisma modifier to Arcana checks.

Level 6: Resonant Techniques

Your intimate understanding of the weave allows you to manipulate your spells in ways that transcend ordinary metamagic. You gain access to the following metamagic options, called Resonant Techniques. Resonant Techniques may only be applied to spells whose level is equal to or lower than half your Sorcerer level, rounded up.

  • Reshape (2 sorcery points). When you cast a spell that targets a single creature and requires a saving throw, you may alter its delivery into one of the following areas of effect: a 15-foot cone, a 30-foot line that is 5 feet wide, or a 10-foot radius cylinder that is 10 feet tall, originating from you. The spell affects all creatures within the chosen area, each making their own saving throw against the spell's effect.
  • Reverberate (3 sorcery points). When you cast a non-concentration spell, you may designate a trigger condition you can observe, such as "a creature enters the area" or "the target takes damage." If that condition is met within 1 minute, the spell automatically casts itself again against the same target or in the same location without expending an additional spell slot. The stored spell uses your spell save DC and attack bonus at the time of the original casting.
  • Unravel (2 sorcery points). When you cast a spell, you may choose to deconstruct its pattern as it resolves, siphoning the residual magical energy back into yourself. If the spell requires an attack roll or forces a saving throw and at least half of the hostile targets (rounded up) are hit by the spell's attack roll or fail the spell's saving throw, you regain 3 sorcery points. If the spell has no effect — because it misses, all targets succeed on their saving throws, or there are no valid targets — you regain nothing.

Level 14: Harmonic Resonance

Your command of observed magic has grown so refined that you can replicate spells in real time without prior study. When you witness a spell being cast within 60 feet of you, you may immediately cast that spell yourself as a reaction, using your own spell slot of the appropriate level. You do not need to have seen the spell before, and it does not need to be on the sorcerer spell list. You can use this reaction a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier per long rest (minimum 1).

Level 18: Living Weave

The weave itself has become an extension of your senses. Your Arcane Imprint capacity increases to your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. Additionally, you are permanently under the effects of detect magic — you sense active magic within 30 feet passively without concentrating.

Also, when you cast an imprinted spell, you may choose to cast it at its lowest level without expending a spell slot. Once you use this ability, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
