Base Class: Wizard
Wield The Forbidden Power of Chaos
Chaos Scholars study Chaos, a forbidden and profoundly corruptive form of magic that embodies destructive imbalance. Its overwhelming power can corrupt worlds, twist living creatures into monstrosities, and destroy even immortal souls. Chaos can remake reality as readily as it destroys it, but every act of creation requires something to be consumed. Chaos Scholars seek to master this limitless power even as each use deepens its influence over their bodies, souls, and beliefs.
Level 3: Chaos Magic
Your study of forbidden magic grants you a reservoir of power represented by Chaos Essence points. The maximum number of Chaos Essence points you can have equals your Wizard level. Your Chaos Essence points remain until you expend them, and you don’t lose them when you finish a Short or Long Rest.
Whenever you cast a level 1+ spell by expending a spell slot, you gain 1 Chaos Essence point after the spell is cast. If you expended Chaos Essence points to cast the spell, you don’t gain a Chaos Essence point from it.
You can cast a spell from any class’s spell list without having it prepared. To cast a spell in this way, you must expend a number of Chaos Essence points equal to 1 plus the spell’s level. If the spell is level 1+, you must also expend a spell slot of the spell’s level. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for the spell, and the spell counts as a Wizard spell for you. You provide the spell’s components as normal.
Level 6: Consume
Once per turn, when a hostile creature is reduced to 0 Hit Points by a spell you cast, you gain 1 Chaos Essence point.
Level 10: Chaos Within
Your connection to Chaos has become a permanent part of you. When you finish a Long Rest, if you have fewer Chaos Essence points than your Intelligence modifier, your number of Chaos Essence points increases to equal that modifier.
Level 14: Born of Chaos
You have learned to use Chaos to create the substances required for your magic by consuming other forms of wealth.
When you cast a spell using Chaos Magic, you can replace any or all of the spell’s Material components that have a specified cost with coins or other nonmagical treasure in your possession of equal value. The substituted wealth is consumed by the spell, even if the Material component it replaces isn’t normally consumed.
