Base Class: Fighter
Cultures of all kinds develop their own fighting styles, and those developed by fey of the Feywild are no exception. Though most often practiced by fey, eladrin, and other elves, the practices of the dream dancer may be learned by any. As a dream dancer you may have sought out a fey to teach you or it may have come to you in a dream or by chance. Whatever the reason, you now have the ability to use the power of dreams and dreamlike states to your advantage. This subclass is added to the available options for the Fighter class.
Dancer’s Repertoire
You have learned a number of different dances, flourishes, and other techniques through your training that draw upon your connection to dreams. This energy is represented by your Dream points. You have a number of these points equal to your proficiency bonus plus your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1), and they fuel various abilities you have, which are detailed below.
Some of your abilities expend the Dream point they use, as specified in an ability’s description, and you can’t use an ability if it requires you to use a point when your points are all expended. You regain all your expended Dream points when you finish a long rest.
The abilities below use your Dream points. If a Dream Dancer feature forces one or more creatures to make a saving throw, use your Dream DC, which is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier.
Singing Strike
You learn how to make your attacks more potent with the magic of dreams. Once on each of your turns, immediately after you hit a target within 30 feet of you with an attack and deal damage to it with a weapon, you can expend one Dream point, dealing psychic damage to the target equal to your total number of Dream points.
Beguiling Defenses
You have learned how to turn a strike against you to your advantage, convincing those who would do you harm to leave you be. When a creature hits you with an attack you may expend your reaction and a Dream point to force the attacking creature to make a Wisdom saving throw against your Dream DC. On a failure the creature is charmed by you and no longer considers you hostile, though they still consider your allies hostile if in combat. This effect lasts for a minute or until you damage the charmed creature or target it with a harmful effect.
Silver Tongue
You have learned a series of small magics that allow you to be an excellent conversationalist and a leader. When you make an ability check that uses Charisma, you may expend two Dream points to gain advantage on that check.
Expanded Repertoire
You have learned of new methods to use your Dream points, detailed below.
Whirling Serenade
When you move, you may expend a Dream point as your body twists and moves in unexpected and unpredictable ways. Until the end of the current turn, opportunity attacks against you are made with disadvantage and your walking speed increases by 10 feet.
Nightmare Flourish
You can cause your strikes to prey on a creature’s nightmares to induce fear. When you deal damage to a target with your Singing Strike feature you may expend an additional Dream point. If you do so, the target must make a Wisdom saving throw against your Dream DC. On a failure, the target is frightened of you for a minute. At the end of each of its turns, a frightened creature may make another Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on a success.
Mental Guardian
Your increased exposure to magic and abilities that twist and deceive the mind has made you adept at resisting them when used against you. You have advantage on saving throws to avoid being charmed or frightened, and gain the following method of using your Dream points.
Mental Anchor
As a reaction, when a creature you can see makes a saving throw to avoid being charmed or frightened, you may spend a Dream point. If you do, they gain advantage on that saving throw as you help to keep them focused.
Dedicated Training
Through your studies and practice, you have improved the capabilities of several of your Dream Dancer features:
- Your Singing Strike feature may be activated not on your turn and may be activated more than once each turn. You must still expend a Dream point for each use.
- When you use your Beguiling Defenses feature, you and a number of other creatures up to your proficiency bonus that you can see regain a number of hit points equal to your Charisma modifier.
- Your Silver Tongue feature requires only one Dream point to activate instead of two.
- Your Whirling Serenade feature increases your movement speed by another 5 feet for a total increase of 15 feet. As well, your movement now does not trigger opportunity attacks at all, instead of triggering them with disadvantage.
Recuperating Trance
Once per day, you may spend an hour of meditation traveling through dreams and refocusing yourself, restoring half of your Dream points, rounded up. This may be done during a short rest.
