Base Class: Wizard
Command Fiends through Force and Bargain
Demonologists study the true names, bindings, and contracts used to summon Fiends from the Lower Planes. In battle, they compel demons through arcane authority, bargain with devils, and hire yugoloths whose loyalty lasts only as long as the agreement does.
Their spellbooks become catalogues of the Fiends they have encountered, recording dangerous names and hard-won arrangements. Some Demonologists bind evil creatures to serve a greater cause, while others pursue forbidden knowledge and power. Whatever their purpose, every Demonologist knows that a summoned Fiend may obey without ever becoming trustworthy.
Level 3: Conjuration Savant
Your specialized study of Conjuration magic makes it easier for you to expand your spellbook with spells from that school.
Choose two Wizard spells from the Conjuration school, each of which must be no higher than level 2, and add them to your spellbook for free.
Whenever you gain access to a new level of spell slots in this class, you can add one Wizard spell from the Conjuration school to your spellbook for free. The chosen spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
Level 3: Planar Companions
Your familiarity with extraplanar creatures allows you to call unusual spirits into your service and coordinate their arrival with exacting precision. You gain the benefits below.
Planar Familiar. Add Find Familiar to your spellbook for free. When you cast the spell, you can choose the Imp, Pseudodragon, or Quasit stat block for the familiar. The familiar otherwise follows the spell’s normal rules, including its inability to attack.
Fiendish Spirit. Add Summon Beast to your spellbook for free. The spell counts as a Wizard spell for you. When you cast it, you can cause the summoned spirit to be a Fiend instead of a Beast.
Demonic Calling. When you cast Summon Lesser Demons, you choose the kind of demon summoned after rolling to determine their number.
Coordinated Summons. Creatures summoned by your Conjuration spells share your Initiative count and take their turns immediately after yours. A creature summoned during your turn can take its first turn immediately after that turn ends. If multiple summoned creatures would act at the same time, you determine the order in which they take their turns.
This feature grants you no additional control over a summoned creature.
Level 6: Planar Authority
Your knowledge of true names and planar bindings grants you exceptional authority over summoned Fiends. You gain the following benefits.
Fiendish Lore. When you summon a Fiend with a Conjuration spell, you learn its true name for the spell’s duration if its Challenge Rating is no greater than your Wizard level. When a spell you cast requires you to make a Charisma check to command or control a Fiend summoned by that spell, you can make an Intelligence (Arcana) check instead.
Fiendish Spellcraft. When a Fiend summoned by one of your Conjuration spells casts a spell, its spell save DC can’t be lower than 10 + your Proficiency Bonus.
Greater Calling. When you cast Summon Greater Demon using a spell slot of level 5 or higher, increase the spell’s maximum Challenge Rating by 1.
When you cast Infernal Calling, you can summon a yugoloth instead of a devil. References to a devil in the spell apply to the yugoloth. The yugoloth’s maximum Challenge Rating is determined normally by the spell. If you summon a devil using a spell slot of level 5 or higher, increase the spell’s maximum Challenge Rating by 1.
Level 10: Keeper of True Names
Recorded Names. When you learn a Fiend’s true name, you can record it in your spellbook. A recorded name remains even if the Fiend dies or returns to its native plane. When a spell you cast summons or calls a Fiend, you can summon a specific Fiend whose true name is recorded, provided it satisfies the spell’s normal restrictions. The Fiend remembers its previous encounters with you.
Planar Audience. Once per Long Rest, you can perform a 10-minute ritual to summon a harmless projection of one recorded Fiend for 10 minutes. You can ask it one question or negotiate a contract with it. It can’t knowingly lie, but can answer cryptically, incompletely, or literally. The terms and price of any contract are determined by the DM.
Contracted Calling. When you cast Infernal Calling to summon a devil or yugoloth that agreed to an applicable contract, you can cast the spell as an action.
Level 14: Grand Conjuration
You can prepare a blooded ritual capable of calling Fiends that normally lie beyond the reach of mortal summoning magic. You gain the benefits below.
Blooded Focus. As part of a 1-hour ritual, which you can perform during a Long Rest, you prepare a summoning focus using a vial of fresh blood from a Fiend or Humanoid. The focus remains potent until you finish your next Long Rest. You can have only one blooded focus at a time.
Grand Summoning. Once before the focus loses its potency, when you cast Summon Greater Demon or Infernal Calling, you can expend the focus. The maximum Challenge Rating of the Fiend summoned by the spell is determined by the spell slot used:
Level 7 Spell Slot: CR 11
Level 8 Spell Slot: CR 14
Level 9 Spell Slot: CR 15
The spell otherwise functions normally. This benefit replaces the increase granted by your Planar Authority feature rather than combining with it.
