Base Class: Barbarian
"The mountain does not hate the storm. It simply outlasts it."
Long before the first cities rose, before the wars of the deities, there were the Monoliths — colossal standing stones scattered across the realms, half-buried in tundra, jungle, and desert alike. No one carved them. No one remembers how or when they arrived. They do not weather. They do not crack. They simply endure.
Where other Barbarian clans rage like wildfire — fast and glorious — the Monolith Barbarian waits in their fury. Their rage is not an explosion, it is pressure applied without end, the slow and inevitable force that grinds mountains into sand and eroding enemies into submission. They do not chase the fight. They become the central pillar of it, daring the world to break itself against them first.
The Unmoving
3rd-level Path of the Ancient Monolith feature
"You shall not bend, you shall not break"
While you are raging, you gain the following benefits:
- You cannot be knocked prone, moved against your will, or have your speed reduced by any external effect, unless you choose to allow it.
- You have advantage on Strength and Constitution saving throws and against being grappled
However, while raging you also cannot take the Disengage action — you are there not to avoid being attacked, but to show those who dare attack you that you fear nothing.
Eye of the storm
3rd-level Path of the Ancient Monolith feature
The air bends around you, coiling in your silent fury as you gain the following benefits
- While you are raging, as an action you can reduce your movement speed by half as you root yourself to the earth, channeling the power of the the ancient pillars.
- Additionally, a storm of elemental power surges around you in a 15ft aura dealing 1d4 (increasing to 2d4, 3d4 and 4d4 at levels 6, 10 and 14 respectively) either acid, cold, fire, poison, thunder or lightning damage until this feature is dismissed as a bonus action.
- Creatures of your choice within your aura get disadvantage on attacks on anyone else but you as their eyes are pelted with the wrath of your power and have their movement speed halved. If said creature ends their turn in your aura they take your aura's dmg and have their movement speed halved.
In this state you cannot make attacks and enemies in your aura that hit you must roll a DEX saving throw or take damage equal to (8 + your CON modifier + your proficiency bonus) of your chosen damage type.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1), regaining all uses on a long rest.
Glacial Momentum
6th-level Path of the Ancient Monolith feature
Your rage grows heavier with time, not lighter. While raging, your aura grows for every consecutive turn you remain in the same 5-foot space:
- 1st turn: Your aura begins to pull creatures of your choice toward you. If an enemy ends their turn in your aura, they are pulled 5ft toward you.
- 3rd+ turns: Your aura increases to 30ft and If an enemy ends their turn in your aura, they are pulled 10ft toward you. Additionally, attacks made at allies within your aura are at disadvantage.
Moving more than 5 feet on your turn resets this stacking effect.
Burden of the mighty
10th-level Path of the Ancient Monolith feature
You can, as a reaction when an ally within 30 feet of you would take damage, shunt a portion of that damage into your own ancient endurance. The ally takes half damage; you take the other half, and it's automatically reduced by your rage resistances. The attacker also takes damage from your aura as if they had attacked you.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1), regaining all uses on a short rest.
Eternal Monolith
14th-level Path of the Ancient Monolith feature
You have stood long enough that even the forces that shake mountains cannot so easily wound you.
- While raging, if you would drop to 0 hit points, you can instead drop to 1 hit point. Once you use this benefit, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
- Additionally, at the start of each of your turns while raging, if you haven't moved since your last turn, you regain temporary hit points equal to your Barbarian level as the ground itself seems to feed you strength for your patience.
-
Your aura expands to 20ft and 40ft respectively.
