Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

The Mounted Warden is a ranger who has learned to make tracks on the dusty trail, or perhaps, the wet, or cavernous, or mountainous ones. They have spent long hours earning the trust of a bestial spirit, and learning to fight from a mounted position. Many of these rangers are used to traversing for miles and miles a day, often seeking to guide folk through the lands they protect.

Ranger's Bonded Mount

You magically summon a bonded mount, which draws strength from your bond with nature. The mount uses the provided statblock, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. Choose three additional traits from the list. You gain additional traits at 7th, 11th, and 15th level. The creature is an ally to you and your companions. In combat, the creature shares your initiative count, and acts on your turn. It obeys your verbal commands (no action required by you). If you don’t issue any, it takes the Dodge action and uses its move to avoid danger.

Mounting or dismounting your Bonded Mount takes 5 feet of movement, as opposed to half of your movement, and you gain advantage on checks and saving throws made to remain mounted. If your mount is knocked prone, you can choose to either dismount or remain mounted. While you are mounted on your Bonded Mount, you both gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Wisdom modifier.

If the mount has died within the last hour, you can use your action to touch it and expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher. The beast returns to life after 1 minute with all its hit points restored.

When you finish a long rest, you can perform a ritual to summon, or change, your Bonded Mount. The mount appears in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you, and you choose its traits and appearance. If you already have a mount from this feature, it adopts a new form.

If you are killed, the mount moves to an unoccupied spot within 5 feet of you, and waits. It only takes actions to defend itself, and only moves to return to an unoccupied spot within 5 feet of you. It will remain in this spot until it is killed, or it starves to death.

 The Bonded Mount Statblock

Amphibious Mount

Your mount is a graceful swimmer, and can thrive in aquatic environments. It gains a swim speed equal to its movement speed, and can breath underwater.

Blink Mount

Prerequisites: Teleporting Mount, 15th level

Your mount's teleportation trait now has one charge. At the beginning of your turn, roll a d6. On a 4-6, the ability recharges.

Additionally, after your mount uses its teleportation trait, you can make a single melee attack on one creature within range.

Brave Mount

Prerequisite: 15th level

Your mount becomes immune to becoming Frightened. Additionally, when you are mounted, you share this immunity.

Burrowing Mount

Prerequisite: 11th level

Your mount gains a Burrow speed equal to its movement.

Climbing Mount

Your mount becomes adept at overcoming daring heights, and can even climb entirely upside down without fear of falling. It gains a climb speed equal to its movement speed, and the spider climb trait.

Cunning Mount

Your mount gains the Cunning Action feature.

It can take a bonus action on each of its turns in combat. This action can be used only to take the Dash, Disengage, or Hide action.

Displacer Mount

Prerequisite: 15th level

At the start of your mount's turn it becomes Displaced, and all attacks made to hit it gain disadvantage. You also gain this benefit while you are mounted. This effect lasts until the Mount or Rider take damage.

Flying Mount

Prerequisite: 11th level

Your mount gains a fly speed equal to its movement speed.

Healing Mount

Prerequisite: Level 7

As an action, your mount can heal you for 1d4 plus your proficiency bonus. Your mount can do this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per day, and regains all expended uses upon the completion of a long rest.

Jugger Mount

Prerequisites: Vicious Mount, 7th level

When your mount makes an attack against a structure or object and hits, it deals maximum damage.

Life Linked Mount

Prerequisites: Healing Mount, Level 11

While you are mounted, if you or your mount would be reduced to 0 health, you can choose to use your reaction to split the damage between you. The damage from the triggering attack cannot reduce either of your health pools below 1 hit point. You can use this reaction once per day, and regain use of it after completing a long rest.

Mauling Mount

Prerequisites: Level 7, Vicious Mount

When your mount attacks a creature and hits, it must make a strength saving throw or become either prone, or grappled (your choice.) The DC is equal to your spell save modifier.

Mindlinked Mount

Prerequisites: Telepathic Mount, 7th level

You can cast Beast Sense on your mount without expending a spell slot.

Relentless Mount

Prerequisites: Vicious Mount, 11th level

When your mount takes the attack action, it makes two attacks.

Sacrificial Mount

Prerequisites: Life Linked Mount, Level 15

Your mount has now devoted its entire life's purpose to you. If you are killed, your mount can use its reaction to sacrifice itself, and die in your stead. You are revived with as much HP as your mount had remaining. You can use this ability once per day, regaining expended use on a long rest. Once you have used this ability, you cannot summon your mount until you have completed a long rest.

Sharp Sighted Mount

Your mount has keen eyes, and can see in the dark, and anticipate even invisible targets within range.

It gains darkvision out to 60 feet, and blindsight out to 10 feet. While you are mounted, and your mount can see a creature, it cannot gain advantage from being unseen by you, nor do you gain disadvantage from being unable to see it.

Silent Mount

Prerequisites: Cunning Mount, 7th level

Your mount gains Stealth proficiency. Additionally, while you are mounted, and both you and your mount take the Hide action on the same turn, you roll two checks using yours and your mounts stealth modifier, and you both take the higher result.

Sure-Footed Mount

Prerequisites: Swift Mount, 7th level

Your mount becomes immune to difficult terrain. Additionally, when it must make a saving throw against becoming prone or being shoved, it does so at advantage. You cannot become dismounted against your will.

Swift Mount

Your mount moves with incredible speed, and gains 20 feet of movement. If your mount has traits such as Aquatic Mount, Climbing Mount, or Flying Mount, it gains 20 feet to those movement speeds as well.

Telepathic Mount

You and your mount gain a telepathic link, so long as you are on the same plane of existence.

Teleporting Mount

Prerequisite: 7th level

As a bonus action, the mount magically teleports, along with any equipment it is wearing or carrying, up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see. Additionally, it can teleport up to two willing, mounted creatures with it.

This ability can be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. Your mount regains all uses of this trait after a long rest.

Vicious Mount

Your mount gains a natural attack that uses your spellcasting modifier to hit. It does damage equal to 1d8 +2 + your proficiency bonus. Additionally, when a creature is the target of your Hunter's Mark or is your Favoured Foe, your mount also benefits from the additional damage.

Rider's Acuity

Also at third level, you are sufficiently trained to ride and fight in mounted combat, you gain proficiency in handling animals, and land vehicles.

Evasive Maneuvers

When your mount would be subject to an effect that allows it to make a Dexterity saving throw to only take half damage, it can use your animal handling bonus to make the roll.

Magical Conduit

Starting at 11th level, when you cast a spell that would affect only yourself, and you are mounted, you can also choose to affect your mount.

Adaptable Mount

Starting at 15th level, you can spend an action to expend a spell slot to gain an additional trait temporarily. You must meet all prerequisites for your temporary trait. The trait lasts a number of hours equal to the level of your spell.
