Base Class: Rogue
Shadow hunters manipulate the same tactics of covert criminals to deliver bloody retribution. Your involvement as a shadow hunter should remain silent and thankless if you are to hide from the evil organizations, bounty hunters, and imperial guards prying to reveal you.
Shadow-Forged Tools
Starting at 3rd level, you’ve mastered a technique to manipulate shadows into various nonmagical objects. As an action while in darkness, you can conjure an item into one of your free hands. The item must be a single solid object you’ve seen before that could be contained within a 3-foot cube. The item can weigh no more than 5 lb. and can cost no more than 5 gp. You can have a single item conjured in this way at any time. Creating a new item with this feature causes the previous item to disappear. The gold and weight cost of items that can be created are doubled when you reach 7th level in this class, and tripled when you reach 15th.
Unseen Partners
Starting at 9th level, friendly entities beyond the edge of perception are bound to serve you. These entities remains unseen, with their actions coming in the form of sudden or premeditated support. You have three Partner Points. On your turn you can choose to expend a point (no action required) and whisper a single word in thieves’ cant. Based on the word, the GM then controls an unseen partner to aid you by taking an action (if you’re in combat) at the end of your turn, or spending up to a minute outside your party’s range of perception performing skill checks. Saying ‘shoot’ might have an arrow fly out towards an enemy, while ‘steal’ could cause a monster in the next room to lose their weapon. The unseen partner shares your proficiency bonus, is proficient in all weapons, is an expert in all tools and skills, and always rolls with a +5 ability modifier. Expended Partner Points are regained whenever you finish a long rest.
Stolen Banter
At 13th level, you can focus on a 30 foot area centered around you and mentally name up to a single person, place, and thing. If you do so for 1 minute, shadows take the silhouetted forms of creatures and begin to visually and audibly act out a conversation that took place in the last 24 hours. A conversation most closely fitting your parameters is acted out first and can never be acted out using this feature again. Additional uses of this feature in the same location can potentially reveal new, less precise conversations. You can omit creatures of your choice that you’re familiar with from having their conversations acted out. Using this feature in areas warded against divination magic also causes it to fail. Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
Atomic Void
At 17th level, as an action you can rapidly reshape shadows to collapse them into a corrosive 200-foot-radius sphere centered on you. For 1 minute, Creatures and objects within the area have their surfaces covered in the corrosive darkness. The darkness doesn’t spread around corners and only covers the sides of everything facing towards you. Corroded creatures take necrotic damage equal to your proficiency bonus at the start of each of their turns, and you can always activate your Sneak Attack against them. Corroded creatures outside the collapsed area can spend an action to remove the corrosion. Creatures and objects entering the area after the initial collapse do not become corroded. Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
