Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

Your bond with the natural world is a pact forged in the high winds and on the mountain peaks, connecting you to the very spirit of the Great Eagles. You were fortunate to find yourself in the charge of a Great Eagle's egg. Your bond to nature is a promise to protect one of the Great Eagle hatch-lings, and in return it is loyal to you and your companions. As your own strength and resolve grow, so too does your eagle, blossoming from a smaller raptor into a powerful, winged creature large enough for you to ride. Through this sacred partnership, you gain an increasing share of the keen senses, protective presence, and awe-inspiring majesty of the Great Eagles themselves.

Gwaihir's Gift

3rd-Level Warden of the Eyrie Feature

The bond you share with your eagle creates a connection to Eaglekind, granting you understanding and empowering your presence. You gain the following benefits:

Thaumaturgy. You learn the gust cantrip, which is a ranger spell for you.

Tongue of the Great Eagles. You learn to speak, read, and write Giant Eagle.

Eagle Companion

3rd-Level Warden of the Great Eagles feature

Your sacred bond with a Great Eagle allows you to perfectly imitate a great eagle's call & summon an eagle companion to your side in an unoccupied space within 30 feet of you, granted the eagle can hear you & physically enter such a place.

The eagle is friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. Its game statistics are in the accompanying Eagle Companion stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places.

In combat, the eagle shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. If you are incapacitated, the eagle can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge.

The eagle remains until it is reduced to 0 hit points, until you use this feature to summon it again, or until you die. If reduced to 0 hit points, your bond allows you to restore all of its hit points by using an action while within reach & expending a spell slot to magically heal its wounds.

Ascended Eagle

7th-Level Warden of the Eyrie Feature

The sacred bond you share with your eagle intensifies, protecting you and strengthening the eagle's might. When you summon your eagle, its wingspan grows vast, and it now becomes a Medium size creature. It gains a flying speed equal to its walking speed.

In addition, while your eagle is summoned, you and the eagle gain the following benefits:

  • Eagle Mount. The eagle grows strong enough for you to use it as a ground mount, provided your size is Medium or smaller. If mounted, it can’t use the flying speed of this feature.

  • Blessed Talons. The eagle's Talon attack deals an extra 1d6 radiant damage. It's attacks become magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances.

Once you summon the eagle, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher to do so.

Piercing Screech

11th-Level Warden of the Eyrie feature

As an action you can command your eagle companion to let out a painfully intense, deafening screech. All creatures that can hear within a 15 foot radius sphere of your eagle must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 8d6 thunder damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one

This damage increases to 10d6 in a 20 feet radius sphere when you reach 15th level in this class.
Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot of 3rd level or higher to use it again.

Manwë's Bond

15th-Level Warden of the Eyrie Feature

Your bond to your eagle reaches the pinnacle of its power. While your eagle is summoned, you and the eagle gain the following benefits:

Empowered Talon. The eagle's Talon attack deals an extra 1d6 damage of radiant damage (for a total of 2d6 extra damage).

Great Eagle. The eagle grows to Large size. It's speed increases to 80 feet. When you ride your eagle, it is no longer prohibited from using its flying speed.

Savior Reflexes. As a reaction you can command your eagle to grab a falling creature (size medium or smaller) within 160 feet of your eagle. If the creature is unwilling, it must make a DC 19 Strength or Dexterity saving throw (creatures choice) to avoid the grab. You can use this reaction a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Presence of the Valar. When either you or the eagle are forced to make a saving throw while you’re within 30 feet of each other, you can use your reaction to give yourself or the eagle advantage on that saving throw. You can use this feature once per long rest or you can expend a spell slot of 2nd level or higher to use the feature.
