Base Class: Monk
A monk who follows the Way of Rage has learned how to turn their Ki into pure explosive force. It allows for more damaging strikes, but in return can lower one's tolerance to slights against them. Monasteries do not teach this path, as they see it as violent and unbecoming of a monk. When it is taught and mastered, the Way of Rage always makes ripples. They turn violence into a precise art: inflicting deep, excruciating lacerations before shattering their victims with explosive burst damage.
Level 3: Mark of Endless Rage
Your body is etched with glowing ink that feeds on your anger and strict sense of retribution. You gain the following benefits:
Intimidating Presence: You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill if you don't already have it. If you are already proficient, you gain expertise (doubling your proficiency bonus for checks made with it, add expertise manually).
Gushing Wound
When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 1 Focus Point to halve your damage, but place a Gushing Wound stack on the target. The wound lasts for 1 minute, until the target receives magical healing, or until it is consumed.
While a target is suffering from a Gushing Wound, you gain two capabilities against it:
-
Open Flesh: Your unarmed strikes against a target with a Gushing Wound deal extra damage equal to the number of Gushing Wound stacks on the target x 1.5 (rounded down).
Example: If you dealt 13 damage against a dragon with your unarmed strike, you would deal 19 damage if it had 3 stacks of "Gushing Wound".
-
Rupture: Once per turn, when you hit a creature suffering from a Gushing Wound with an unarmed strike, you can choose to Rupture the wound. Doing so consumes all Gushing Wound stacks, ending its effect and dealing bonus Force damage equal to your martial arts die x the number of Gushing Wound stacks x 2.
Example: If a dragon had 3 Gushing Wound stacks, and your Martial Arts die was a d8, you would deal 12d8 Force damage
Vengeful Blow
When a creature hits you or an ally, you can use your Reaction to move up to half your speed toward that creature and make one unarmed strike against it before it attacks; if the attack hits, it requires a Constitution saving throw. (DC 8 + Proficiency + Dex Modifier). On a fail, they gain 3 Gushing Wound stacks.
If this attack hits, it automatically applies a Gushing Wound to the target without requiring you to spend a Focus point.
Explosive Rage
You learn to project the retributive force of your tattoos outward, discharging a brutal wave of purple kinetic energy that forcefully detonates open wounds from afar.
As an Action, you can spend 3 Focus Points to project a burst of force in front of you by striking the ground. Each creature in a 15-foot cube makes a Dexterity saving throw. (DC 8 + Proficiency bonus + Dexterity modifier.)
On a fail, the enemy takes 11d6 force damage, and if they have Gushing Wound stacks, they take extra damage equal to your martial arts die x the number of Gushing Wound stacks. If an enemy fails the save but has no Gushing Wound stacks, inflict 4 Gushing Wound stacks.
This also gives you advantage on all Strength checks and saving throws.
Explosive Lariat
Instead of 15 Ft. of range, you can instead do a "Lariat" by using 2 Focus Points. You can make the action lose its AOE effect and be single-target, but the target must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + Dex modifier + Proficiency bonus + Amount of "Gushing Wound" stacks on target). On a success, the target takes 10 damage and gains 1 Gushing Wound stack. They are grappled at the end of this attack, and you are both moved 20 feet forward from where you used this skill.
