Base Class: Rogue
Many rogues walk a fine line between life and death, risking their own lives and taking the lives of others. On that line, some rogues discover a mystical connection to the realm of death itself. These rogues take on the Phantom archetype, drawing power from the spirits of the dead and using those echoes to enhance their skills, gain otherworldly knowledge, and channel necrotic energy in battle.
As a Phantom, your bond with death grants you unique abilities: you can commune with restless souls to acquire temporary proficiencies through Whispers of the Dead, and you can channel the agony of dying spirits with Wails from the Grave to strike fear and deal necrotic damage to secondary targets.
Whispers of the Dead
Echoes of the dead impart knowledge to you. Whenever you finish a short or long rest, you can choose one skill or tool proficiency that you lack and gain it until you finish your next rest, as a presence of a dead spirit temporarily shares its knowledge with you.
Wails from the Grave
As you hit a creature with a Sneak Attack, you can channel the agony of death to target a second creature you can see within 30 feet of the first. The target takes necrotic damage equal to a number of d6s equal to your Sneak Attack dice (1d6 at level 3).
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
