Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

You were there in the days of old, you remember when dungeons were deadly, and death could strike from a wandering monster check, a poisoned needle on a chest, or a sloping corridor that suddenly tipped you into a pit of green slime.

Rooted in the traditions of classic, old-school tabletop adventuring, the Dungeon Veteran is a fighter who has stared into the dark depths of the earth and refused to break. While modern warriors rely on courtly honor or arcane enhancements, the Dungeon Veteran knows that survival in the megadungeons requires dirty tricks, tactical adaptability, and absolute grit.

As these fighters grow in power, they transition from underground looters into legendary warlords capable of raising fortresses, commanding loyal retainers, and shrugging off mortal wounds that would fell lesser champions. Whether you want to recreate the gritty vibe of classic editions or play an experienced veteran who commands respect through sheer survival, this archetype turns you into an unstoppable force of nature both inside and outside the ruins.

Level 3: Hardened Veteran

Your long exposure to the lethal hazards of dungeons has forged your body and mind against the horrors that make other adventurers flee.

  • Dungeon Resilience: You gain proficiency in Wisdom (or Intelligence, your choice when you gain this feature) saving throws.

  • Scavenger’s Senses: You have Advantage on Wisdom (Perception or Survival) checks made specifically to detect traps, secret doors, cave-ins, or environmental hazards in dungeons, ruins, and underground environments.

Level 3: Dirty Tricks

In ancient dungeons, honor takes a backseat to survival. You have learned to use the environment and underhanded tactics to neutralize formidable foes.

When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can use a Bonus Action to attempt a classic maneuver (using your choice of Athletics or Acrobatics contested by the target's Strength or Dexterity):

  • Sweep in the Dark: Knocks the target prone, provided it is Large or smaller.

  • Clumsy Disarm: Forces the target to drop an item it is holding.

  • Obscure Vision: Throws debris, dust, or grease to impose disadvantage on the target's next attack roll made before the end of its turn.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Short or Long Rest.

Level 7: Siege and Ruin Specialist

Your weapon attacks deal double damage to objects and structures (walls, doors, iron bars, and physical magical barriers). Additionally, when you hit a melee weapon attack against a construct, ooze, or a creature wearing heavy metal armor, you crush its defenses: the target's AC takes a cumulative -1 penalty (up to a maximum of -5) until the end of your next turn.

Level 10: Veteran Authority

You gain proficiency in the Intimidation and Persuasion skills. If you are already proficient, you gain Expertise (double your proficiency bonus) in one of them.

  • Rallying Cry: As a Bonus Action, you can issue a stern command. Choose a number of visible allies within 60 feet equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1). Each of them gains temporary hit points equal to your Fighter level and can immediately use their Reaction to move up to half their speed without provoking Opportunity Attacks.

Once you use this feature, you can not use it again until you finish a Short or Long Rest.

Level 15: Domain of the Stronghold

Much like the warriors of distant times who earned the right to raise castles, your territorial and administrative influence reaches its peak.

  • Seat of Power: When you spend at least 7 days in a civilized area or wilderness controlling or protecting a base, castle, fortified camp, or property, you attract loyal followers (equivalent to a group of guards, artisans, or apprentices—managed by the Dungeon Master). They defend your stronghold, maintain supplies, and gather information for you.

  • Impenetrable Bastion: While you are in a space considered your base/fortress or in underground dungeons and ruins, you gain Resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks.

Level 18: Immortal Veteran

You have seen it all, survived deadly traps, dragons, and fallen empires, becoming an indestructible living legend.

  • Refusal to Die: When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can choose to drop to 1 hit point instead. When you do so, you gain temporary hit points equal to twice your Fighter level.

Once you use this feature, you can not use it again until you finish a Long Rest.

Additionally, you no longer suffer the effects of natural aging and are immune to the Exhaustion condition resulting from forced marches or extreme environments (hunger, cold, or severe dungeon heat).
