Base Class: Ranger
Track your prey’s suffering, and haunt it with its past.
Sorrow-Eaters are tasked with guiding lingering bodies and souls to their final rest. They do so through forgotten rites fueled by affliction, relying on their connection to places where misery abounds.
Level 3: Sorrowcraft
By absorbing a creature’s pain, you can invoke dark rites fueled by suffering. As a Bonus Action, you can expend a use of Favored Enemy and touch a creature to activate one of the following Grief Rites.
Eyes of the Soul. The creature you touch to use this Grief Rite must make a Charisma saving throw against your Ranger spell save DC. On a failed save, you ask one question and receive a vision of a memory belonging to the creature that answers that question. If the creature has no memory that answers your question, you instead receive a vision of the most traumatic memory the creature has experienced. You can use this Grief Rite on a dead creature, provided it has been dead for no longer than 2 days.
Wraith Blade. You envelop a weapon you’re holding in the creature’s remorse. For 1 minute, all damage you deal with that weapon becomes Psychic or Necrotic damage (your choice). Additionally, when you hit the creature you touched to use this Grief Rite with that weapon, you deal an extra 1d4 damage of the chosen type. You can deal this extra damage only once per turn, and the extra damage increases to 1d6 when you reach Ranger level 11.
Level 3: Sorrow-Eater Spells
When you reach a Ranger level specified in the Sorrow-Eater Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spell prepared.

Level 7: Guardian's Veil
An invisible veil protects your body and spirit from corruption. You have Resistance to Psychic and Necrotic damage, and you are immune to Possession.
Level 11: Psychopomp’s Crossroads
By performing a 1-hour ritual, you ensure that every dead creature within 30 feet safely passes into the afterlife. When the ritual is complete, none of those creatures can be brought back to life as Undead, and you regain one expended use of Sorrowcraft. You can regain a use of Sorrowcraft in this way only once per Long Rest.
Additionally, you gain the following Grief Rites.
Spectral Step. Choose a creature you can see within 60 feet. You teleport to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of that creature. Additionally, you can make one attack against that creature as part of the same Bonus Action you use to activate this Grief Rite.
Spirit of Retribution. You manifest a specter formed from the creature’s traumas and fears. For 1 minute, whenever the creature you touched to use this Grief Rite deals damage to you, it takes Psychic or Necrotic damage (your choice) equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1 damage).
Level 15: Beyond the Grave
You are constantly under the effects of the See Invisibility spell. In addition, you can cast this spell on a creature you can touch, and you can target one additional creature for each spell slot level above 2nd used to cast the spell.
