Base Class: Monk
Way of the Unyielding Spirit
“The body may falter, but the spirit must endure.”
Monks who follow the Way of the Unyielding Spirit believe that true martial mastery is not achieved through flawless technique, but through the determination to overcome failure.
Through rigorous physical training and unwavering discipline, these warriors learn to transform missed strikes into opportunities, adapt to their opponents, and maintain relentless offensive pressure even against overwhelming odds.
Rather than seeking perfection, these monks embrace adversity as an essential part of their growth. Every failed attack becomes a lesson, every defeat strengthens their resolve, and every battle offers another opportunity to surpass their limitations.
At the height of their mastery, practitioners of this tradition can push beyond the limits of their bodies, continuing to fight when others would have fallen.
For an Unyielding Spirit, defeat is not the end. It is simply another reason to rise.
“You can break my bones. You can exhaust my strength. You can knock me down a thousand times. But as long as my spirit remains... I WILL ALWAYS RISE AGAIN!”
Level 3: Unrelenting Technique
Your relentless training allows you to channel your martial discipline into devastating offensive techniques.
When you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike on your turn, you can expend 1 Focus Point to apply one of the following techniques to that attack. You can use only one of these techniques per turn.
Crushing Blow. The attack deals extra damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die.
Overwhelming Pressure. The attack deals extra damage equal to your Wisdom modifier, and the target can't take Reactions until the start of your next turn.
Relentless Pursuit. The attack deals extra damage equal to your Wisdom modifier, and you can immediately move up to 10 feet without provoking Opportunity Attacks from the target.
You choose which technique to apply when you expend the Focus Point.
Level 3: Flowing Resolve
Flowing Resolve
Your martial discipline allows you to transform failed attacks into opportunities.
When you miss a creature with an Unarmed Strike on your turn, you can adapt your fighting technique. You gain Advantage on the next Unarmed Strike you make against that creature before the end of the same turn.
If that attack hits, you can immediately move up to 5 feet without provoking Opportunity Attacks from that creature.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Level 6: Transcendent Focus
Transcendent Focus
Your unwavering determination allows you to surpass your normal limitations and enter a state of heightened martial awareness.
Once per Long Rest, when you hit or miss with an Unarmed Strike on your turn, you can expend 2 Focus Points to activate Transcendent Focus (no action required).
The state lasts for 1 minute and ends early if you have the Incapacitated condition.
While Transcendent Focus is active, you gain the following benefits:
Unstoppable Rhythm. Once on each of your turns, when you miss with an Unarmed Strike, you can move up to 5 feet without provoking Opportunity Attacks from the target. This movement requires no action.
Adaptive Strikes. Once on each of your turns, when you use Flowing Resolve and your follow-up Unarmed Strike hits, you can add your Wisdom modifier to the attack's damage.
Relentless Determination. Once during each activation of Transcendent Focus, when you reduce a hostile creature to 0 Hit Points with an Unarmed Strike, you regain 1 expended Focus Point.
Level 11: Unceasing Assault
Unceasing Assault
At 11th level, your relentless martial discipline allows you to recover from failed attacks and overwhelm opponents with continuous combinations.
Unbroken Combination. Once on each of your turns, when you miss a creature with an Unarmed Strike, you can expend 1 Focus Point to immediately make one additional Unarmed Strike against that creature as part of the same action or Bonus Action.
If this additional attack hits, it deals extra damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.
This additional attack cannot trigger Unbroken Combination again.
Relentless Assault. Once on each of your turns, when you hit the same creature with at least three Unarmed Strikes, you can choose one of the following benefits when the third strike hits:
-
Overwhelming Force. The third successful strike deals extra damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die.
-
Unstoppable Advance. Immediately after the third successful strike, you can move up to 10 feet without provoking Opportunity Attacks from that creature.
Neither option requires additional Focus Points.
You can use Flowing Resolve and Unbroken Combination in response to the same missed attack, provided you meet the requirements of both features. If you do, the additional Unarmed Strike from Unbroken Combination can benefit from the Advantage granted by Flowing Resolve.
Level 17: Indomitable Soul
Indomitable Soul
At 17th level, your unwavering spirit allows you to continue fighting even when your body reaches its breaking point.
Once per Long Rest, when damage would reduce you to 0 Hit Points without killing you outright, you can expend 3 Focus Points to drop to 1 Hit Point instead and activate Indomitable Soul without requiring an action.
Indomitable Soul lasts for 1 minute and ends early if you have the Incapacitated condition.
While Indomitable Soul is active, you gain the following benefits:
Unbreakable Resolve. You immediately gain Temporary Hit Points equal to twice your Monk level. You also have Advantage on saving throws against being Charmed or Frightened.
Fists of Defiance. Your Unarmed Strikes score a Critical Hit on a roll of 19 or 20. Once on each of your turns, when you hit with an Unarmed Strike, you can deal extra Force damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die.
Never Back Down. Once on each of your turns, when you miss with an Unarmed Strike, you can immediately move up to 10 feet without provoking Opportunity Attacks from the target. This movement doesn't stack with the movement granted by Transcendent Focus's Unstoppable Rhythm.
Final Requital
Once during Indomitable Soul, when you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike, you can unleash a devastating finishing blow.
The attack deals additional Force damage equal to four rolls of your Martial Arts die.
Immediately after resolving the attack, Indomitable Soul ends.
You can apply Fists of Defiance's extra damage to the same attack, provided you haven't used that benefit during the current turn.
