Base Class: Monk
Warriors of the Tōshō believe that the forging of a weapon is itself a form of martial discipline. Through countless hours before the forge, they learn to shape steel with the same patience and precision with which they shape their own bodies and minds. Every hammer blow, fold, and sharpened edge is an exercise in Focus, culminating in a blade uniquely suited to its creator.
Each Tōshō carries a signature sword forged by their own hands and continually refines it throughout their journey. As the Tōshō's mastery grows, their Focus becomes imbued within the weapon, allowing them to temper it beyond the limits of ordinary steel and awaken extraordinary properties within their creation.
To a Tōshō, swordsmith and swordsman are not separate disciplines. The warrior perfects the blade, the blade perfects the warrior, and through the endless refinement of both, the Tōshō strives to create their masterpiece.
Level 3: Bladesmith's Training
Your training at the forge is as rigorous as your martial discipline, allowing you to channel your Focus through the weapons you create. You gain the following benefits.
Tool Proficiency. You gain proficiency with Smith's Tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of Artisan's Tools of your choice.
Weapon Crafting. When you craft a nonmagical or magic weapon, the amount of time required to craft it is halved.
Level 3: Masterwork Blade
You have created a special weapon known as your Masterwork Blade. If it is lost or destroyed, you can create a new one during a Long Rest, at which point the previous blade is destroyed if it still exists. You must have Smith's Tools on hand to create your Masterwork Blade.
Your Masterwork Blade is a Simple melee weapon with the Light property that requires one hand to wield. You have proficiency with your Masterwork Blade, and other creatures don't gain proficiency with it as a result of having proficiency with Simple weapons.
The blade deals Slashing damage equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die. When you make an attack with the blade, you can use your Dexterity or Wisdom modifier for the attack and damage rolls. In addition, your Masterwork Blade counts as an Unarmed Strike for the purposes of your Monk features, such as Bonus Unarmed Strike and Flurry of Blows.
When you make the extra attack granted by the Light property using your Masterwork Blade, you can make that attack with your Masterwork Blade instead of a different Light weapon. You add your ability modifier to the damage of this extra attack as normal.
Whenever you create your Masterwork Blade, choose two Weapon Mastery properties from the following list: Cleave, Graze, Nick, Push, Sap, Slow, Topple, or Vex. Your Masterwork Blade has the chosen properties, and you can use them regardless of whether the blade meets their normal prerequisites. You can use only one of the blade's Weapon Mastery properties on each attack.
Level 6: Tōshō's Stance
You have developed specialized fighting stances inspired by legendary creatures. When you roll Initiative, choose one of the following Stances to enter. While your Stance is active, you can expend 1 Focus Point on your turn (no action required) to change to another Stance. Your Stance ends if 1 minute passes without you dealing damage to a creature.
Fierce Ogre Stance. Your reach with your Masterwork Blade increases by 10 feet. In addition, your attacks with your Masterwork Blade deal 1 additional Fire damage on a hit.
Sentinel Goblin Stance. You gain a +1 bonus to Armor Class. In addition, your attacks with your Masterwork Blade deal 1 additional Force damage on a hit.
Trickster Fox Stance. Your Speed increases by 10 feet. In addition, your attacks with your Masterwork Blade deal 1 additional Psychic damage on a hit.
Level 11: Redirecting Parry
When you take damage from a creature within 5 feet of you while wielding your Masterwork Blade, you can take a Reaction and expend up to 2 Focus Points to reduce the damage by a number of rolls of your Martial Arts die equal to the number of Focus Points spent.
As part of the same Reaction, you can make one attack with your Masterwork Blade against the creature that dealt the triggering damage. On a hit, you don't add your Dexterity or Wisdom modifier to the attack's damage. If you reduced the triggering damage to 0, you have Advantage on this attack.
Level 17: Perfect Blade
You have perfected both your Masterwork Blade and the fighting styles through which you wield it. Your Masterwork Blade gains two additional Weapon Mastery properties of your choice from the options available in your Masterwork Blade feature. You can still use only one Weapon Mastery property per attack.
In addition, while your Tōshō's Stance is active, the additional damage dealt by your Masterwork Blade from your current Stance increases from 1 to 1d4. You can also change your current Stance on your turn without expending a Focus Point.
