Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Competitive combat runs in the blood of some barbarians, so much so that they choose to make their life's fortunes in the arena. Gladiators favor one-on-one combat and revel in the cheering and excitement of a crowd full of spectators. These barbarians fight for glory, honor, and the thrill of the fight.

Challenge Rival

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, as a bonus action you can choose a creature you can see within 60 feet and declare it as your rival. While raging, successful melee attacks made against your rival deal additional damage according to the rival damage die listed in the table below.

Barbarian Level Rival Damage Die
3rd 1d6
6th 1d8
10th 1d10
14th 1d12

You may only declare a new rival once your current rival has dropped to 0 hp, or if your rage ends.

Unrelenting Challenge

Whenever your rival makes an attack against you, as a reaction, you can impose disadvantage on the attack. You must decide to use this feature before you know whether or not the attack was a hit or a miss. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your charisma modifier per long rest.

Master Entertainer

As a gladiator, you are a master of entertaining crowds and building excitement in others. At 3rd level and after choosing this path, you gain proficiency in performance and advantage when making a performance skill check.

Opportunistic Blow

Beginning at 6th level, you learn to take advantage of your rival whenever they ignore your challenge. Whenever you are in melee range of your rival and your rival takes any action other than an attack against you, you may make a single weapon attack as a reaction against your rival.

Revel In Victory

Starting at 10th level, whenever you make a melee weapon attack that reduces your rival to 0 hit points, you gain temporary hit points equal to your charisma score. If you declare a new rival during this turn, that rival has disadvantage on attack rolls against you until the start of your next turn. Any left over temporary hit points vanish at the end of combat.

Bloodlust For Victory

Starting at 14th level, you have developed a mastery of one-on-one duels. Weapon attacks against your rival score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
