Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of Enlightenment tasks paladins with expanding their minds and seeking out the truth.  Deception weaves its threads into all reaches of society, and these paladins use a discerning eye and ear to seek it out and disarm it.  Knowledge, honesty, and perspective are the pillars of this oath, and these paladins, also known as truthseekers, are unmatched in their skills of deduction, investigation, and infiltration.

These warriors of truth act as divine spies and investigators, sent by their patrons to expose falsehoods and deceptions.  No place or secret is inaccessible to a truthseeker tasked with finding it.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Omniscience:  You can use your Channel Divinity to gain knowledge about your enemies.  As an action, you can divine information about a creature within 30 feet of you and roll a d4.  You can choose up to the rolled amount of any combination of the following:

  • The true name of the creature, and whether or not it is under any magical effect to mask its appearance.
  • Whether an item you can see in their possession is of significant personal, magical, or historical importance.
  • Whether or not the creature is vulnerable or resistant to a damage type of your choice.
  • Its hit point total.
  • An ability score of your choice.
  • Its place of origin or domain.

Sacred Secret:  You can use your Channel Divinity to lock information behind a divine barrier or release information from its bearer.  As an action, you can perform one of the following:

  • You can answer any inquiry addressed to you by starting with the phrase, “My truth be told…”, and force the inquirer to make an Intelligence saving throw.  On a failure, the creature is magically compelled to believe your answer as fact and any other related details you divulge over the next minute.
  • You can ask any question directed at a creature by starting with the phrase, “Let thy truth be known…”, and force the creature to make an Intelligence saving throw.  On a failure, the creature is magically compelled to answer truthfully to 3 questions of your choice over the next minute.

When the effect ends, the creature has no recollection of the triggering phrase being uttered and does not know that they were magically compelled.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.  As a paladin of enlightenment, you use your Intelligence modifier to cast spells.

Oath of Enlightenment Spells

Fleeted Fealty

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you become a holy agent of swift efficiency.  Trained in the use of equipment meant to ease and enhance your hunt for the truth, your AC increases by an amount equal to your Intelligence modifier when you are not wearing heavy armor or wielding a shield.

Aura of Enlightenment

Starting at 7th level, you become a beacon of intuition to your allies.  You and your companions within 10 feet of you gain proficiency in History and Investigation checks while you are conscious.  Also, if a companion's Intelligence score is less than yours, they can instead choose to use your Intelligence modifier for Intelligence skill checks and saving throws.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Pen and Sword

Starting at 15th level, you have mastered the ability to improve your focus and glean intricacies as you spend more time in combat.  You gain the following benefits.

  • You gain proficiency in Intelligence saving throws.
  • When you hit an enemy with a weapon attack, your Intelligence score increases by 1, stacking up to 5 times.  This feature cannot increase your Intelligence score above 30, and your Intelligence score returns to its base value when you take a long rest or if you fall unconscious.
  • You can add your Intelligence modifier to your weapon damage rolls.

Truth Bearer

Starting at 20th level, your dedication to the pursuit of truth has given you divine insight and tactical advantages.  You gain the following benefits:

  • You can cast the Identify, Divination, and Lore Legend spells at their base level without consuming a spell slot.
  • Your Strength and Intelligence ability scores increase by 4.  This feature can increase your ability scores above 20 but not 30.
