Base Class: Monk
capoeira is a martial art that combines elements of fight, acrobatics, music, dance and rituals in a very elegant and magnetic way. First created by slaves who had to hide their techniques in dance moves, the art of capoeira has now been long lost with you being one of its last practitioners
Bonus proficiency
As a capoeirista, you have mastered the art of both music and dancing providing you proficiency in performance checks and percussion instruments. With your moves being captivating both in and out of combat.
Ginga
Starting at level 3 you are able to use the back and forth movements of Ginga. Ginga is the foundation of capoeira and allows the player to spend 1 Ki point and take the Dodge action as a bonus action, successfully dodging a hit while Ginga is active allows you to use your reaction to either move 10ft in any direction or attempt an unarmed attack against the attacker. Also, you gain the ability move up to 10ft while inside of your opponent's melee attack range without losing any movement
O Jogo
Starting at level 6 whenever you land a hit, by using one Ki point you are able to do one of the following actions:
Cabeçada: You hit your opponent with your head, he must succeed a strength saving throw or be pushed back 10ft and suffer damage equal to your proficiency modifier + DEX modifier.
Rasteira: You sweep the leg of your opponent, he must succeed a strength saving throw or be knocked prone and suffer damage equal to your proficiency modifier + DEX modifier.
Rabo de Arraia: An evasive maneuver mixed in with a reverse roundhouse kick. The opponent must succeed a Dexterity saving throw or receive damage equal to your proficiency modifier + DEX modifier. The player also moves back 10ft
You may use only one of these actions per turn.
Chamada
At 11th level, your skill in the fighting and dancing aspects of capoeira is so great that, as an action, you are able to taunt your opponents and make them face you in a 1v1. The affected target would have to succeed a wisdom saving throw of (DC 8+proficiency bonus+charisma mod) or be charmed until the end of your next turn. The charmed target can only take offensive actions towards you (no attacks of opportunity), and any movement taken to get away from you is halved (can still help allies and cast spells that are not considered attacks). The charmed effect wears off if the charmed creature suffers damage from any source that isn't you, if you fall unconscious or if one 1 minute goes by. You may only use this ability against someone who is engaged in combat against you
You can use this ability once every short rest
Mestre da Roda
When you reach level 17 you have acquired enough experience in fighting under pressure that the presence of enemies only strengthens you. Your AC increases by 1 for every enemy who is focusing on you.
Also when you and an enemy are engaged in a 1v1 duel (no enemies in a 5ft radius of both of you) you are able to re-roll missed attacks once per turn,
Charismatic defense
You use your charisma modifier instead of your wisdom for the unarmored defence

Posted Feb 12, 2020I don't know if the author wants feedback, but I am a researcher who works on capoeira, and the earlier tradition (pre academy) of capoeira gangs would be a way more interesting build for a capoeira-based character. They were thugs who controlled the ports, especially in Rio de Janeiro, when the city had a larger fleet than London. Not like the version of the art you see today, imagine 'Gangs of New York' with heavy dose of African-based music, protective magic, and razor blade based fighting. I'll look back again, but if you'd like, I'd be really happy to go down that road. I'm working on a home-brewed campaign setting where I want to include them.
