Base Class: Wizard
Miasmomancy is the art of combining different schools of magic in order to create new, unstable spells. By doing so, the waste left behind is great enough that the wizard can re-use it in new and... interesting ways. A Miasmomancer has no qualms with breaking a few laws regarding the ethics of magic, so long as they believe there is something to be learned from it.
Miasmomancy Savant
As you delve into the school of Miasmomancy, you learn how to fuse the different schools of magic into powerful spells. You have advantage on any arcana check used to attempt to create a spell, and the time and gold costs required to copy a Miasmomancy spell into your spellbook is halved.
Unbridled Chaos
Each time you cast a Miasmomancy spell, you gain one level of unbridled chaos, up to 5 levels. At the sixth level you are reduced to 0 hit points and fall unconscious. You can use an action to either flush the Miasma from your body, or manifest it, raising or lowering your level of Unbridled Chaos by one. Each level comes with its own benefits and side effects, and you keep the effects of each level as you progress.
- Level One- You can add your Intelligence modifier to one damage roll of the Miasmomancy spells you cast.
Side Effect: Your speed is halved.
- Level Two- You gain resistance to all damage dealt by spells or other magical effects.
Side Effect: You have disadvantage on all Strength and Dexterity checks and saves.
- Level Three- As a bonus action on each turn, you can instantly dash a distance equal to five times your Intelligence modifier.
Side Effect: You cannot receive healing from non-Miasmomancy spells
- Level Four- You automatically succeed on all concentration checks.
Side Effect: You are vulnerable to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
- Level Five- Miasmomancy spells cast of 5th level or lower automatically crit, and saving throws against them automatically fail.
Side Effect: At the end of each turn you suffer 2d4 necrotic damage. This damage increases as you level up, with the number of d4’s equalling your proficiency modifier. This damage cannot be reduced or resisted in any way short of the Black Blood.
Chaos Shield
As you tamper with the boundaries of the arcane, the raw chaos you summon surrounds you, and makes it difficult for enemies to attack you. For each level of Unbridled Chaos, your AC increases by 1.
The form of this AC manifests in a manner of your choice, whether it be tendrils of miasma deflecting blows, or a field of chaos swelling around you, creating a physical barrier.
Arcane Distortion
Empowered by the unpredictable nature of Miasma, your spells become harder to avoid and resist. At the first level of Unbridled Chaos, your spell save DC increases by 1. At the third level, your spell save DC increases by 1 again, and your spells ignore resistance. At fifth level, your spells treat immunity as resistance.
Miasmic Avatar
Inured to the backlash of Miasmomancy, you have learned to temporarily resist the drawbacks of your spells. Once you reach the sixth level of Unbridled Chaos, instead of falling unconscious, you become an avatar of chaos. For a number of rounds equal to your intelligence modifier+your constitution modifier (minimum of 1), you become immune to all side effects of Unbridled Chaos, and assume the form of a being of pure miasmic force. At the end of this duration, you lose all levels of Unbridled Chaos, but retain consciousness.
You can only use this feature once per long rest, or can expend a spell slot of fifth level or higher to regain one use.
