Base Class: Barbarian
Some savage headbangers like to use the same instrument for combat and music. The music you make isn't beautiful in the classic sense, but it always gets attention.
Create Battle Guitar
Starting when you take this path at 3rd level, you gain the ability to transform weapons into a musical instrument.
When you wield a melee weapon with the two-handed property, you can spend an action to turn it into a battle guitar. For you, battle guitars are melee weapons with the two-handed property that deal 2d6 bludgeoning damage. They lack the heavy property, so Small creatures can wield them. It remains a battle guitar as long as have you have it on you. If you attune to the weapon, it remains a battle guitar as long as you remain attuned to it.
Battle guitars are electric guitars that each have a unique appearance based on the original weapon they were. They are fully functional instruments. You gain proficiency in battle guitars and Performance and add twice your proficiency bonus to any skill checks made to play your battle guitar.
If you score a critical hit with your battle guitar, it wails. This sound is audible up to 300 feet away. The target must make a Constitution saving throw against a DC of 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier. If it fails, it is deafened for 1 minute.
Play It!
At 3rd level, you can use your battle guitar to create special sonic attacks.
As an action, you can play a mean riff. This acts like the Thunderclap cantrip, with several differences.
- You add your rage damage, and creatures that succeed on their saving throw take half damage instead of no damage. It counts as an attack for the purpose of continuing your rage.
- If a creature rolls a natural 1 on its saving throw, it takes an additional die of damage. Each time you gain the Brutal Critical feature, such a creature takes another additional die of damage.
- You can increase the area so it affects each creature within 10 feet of you.
- Finally, you can use your Reckless feature to impose disadvantage on saving throws against this feature. As usual, attack rolls against you have advantage until your next turn.
The DC against this feature is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier. You also know the Booming Blade spell and can cast it while raging. You can use your Reckless feature while casting it.
Bolstering Chord
At 6th level, you gain the ability to use your battle guitar's sick sound to disrupt mind-influencing effects. When you play a riff using your Play It! feature, you and each creature of your choice within 30 feet of you have advantage on on saving throws against being frightened or charmed until the start of your next turn. A creature must be able to hear you to gain this benefit.
In addition, your exposure to loud music gives you resistance to thunder damage and immunity to being deafened by noise or sonic attacks.
Wail to the Heavens
At 10th level, you can play an awesome tune. As an action, you can fall to your knees and play your battle guitar with incredible speed and energy. This is audible up to 500 feet away.
You and any other creatures of your choice that can hear you gain advantage on attack rolls and saving throws until the start of your next turn and temporary hit points equal to your Barbarian level.
Using this feature counts as attacking for purpose of continuing your rage. Once you use it, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest
Power Slide
At 14th level, when you enter a rage and a bonus action while raging, you can perform a deft slide while playing your battle guitar. You move up to 10 feet. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
