Base Class: Wizard
The Crystal Sage is a wizard who has studied the ancient arcane, learning and practicing with arcane magic in its most basic form of crystallized energy. They use this energy to buff themselves or their allies, enchanting weapons and armor, or crystalizing spells for later use.
Primal Knowledge
The study of primal arcana has given you an advanced knowledge over the arcane arts. Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, you gain Proficiency and Advantage on Arcana, History, and Nature checks, as well as the ability to select one Cantrip off of the Druid Cantrip list. This spell does not count against Cantrips known.
Crystalize
Beginning at 2nd level, you can channel your arcane energy to grant a magical bonus to a weapon or armor. As a bonus action you touch one melee weapon or piece of armor, causing pale blue crystals to grow from it. For the next minute the weapon has a weapon attack and damage bonus equal to half your Intelligence modifier. The weapon also becomes magical, if it isn’t already. Alternatively, you can touch a piece of armor and grant the wielder resistance to magical damage.
Only one object can be affected at a time, and after it fades you must take a long rest before it can be used again.
Crystal Chrysalis
Starting at 6th level, you learn the advanced art of storing the spells you know by crystallizing magical energy into Arcane Gems. Storing a spell allows you to select a number of spells you know, depending on the value and type of gem, and store it to be cast another time. To do this, you must procure a gem of appropriate cost and type for the school of magic and level of spell being stored, as certain magics bind themselves to some gems more easily than others:
- Citrine, Amber: Conjuration
- Ruby, Garnet: Evocation
- Emerald, Onyx: Necromancy
- Diamond, Zircon: Divination
- Amethyst, Smokey Quartz: Illusion
- Opal, Rose Quartz: Transmutation
- Sapphire: Abjuration
(some gems may be an exception, a fire opal, for example, being able to store both Evocation and Transmutation spells)
The process takes a number of hours equal to the combined level of the spells being stored. Once a spell is stored, the spell slot for the spell being crystallized is used. A single gem can only store a total number of spell levels equal to its value, costing 100 gp per level of spell, or 50 gp for a Cantrip. Once the spell storing process has been completed, the gem is magically sealed and cannot be refilled. After all of the energy from a gem is expended, the gem shatters. A spell stored this way only lasts for a week before fading away. If the magic fades from a gem and no energy has been expended, the gem does not shatter, but does decrease in value by 100 gp. If some but not all has been expended, the gem shatters.
Spell Shatter
Starting at 10th level, your crystalline spells can shatter upon impact. When you succeed on a ranged spell attack against a creature, you may choose one additional creature within 5ft of it to take half of the damage from the spell attack with a minimum of 1 damage.
Improved Chrysalis
Beginning at 14th level, the time it costs for your Crystal Chrysalis is reduced by half. In addition to this, the spells you store do not fade after a week, and last until cast.
