Base Class: Wizard
Musician of the Arcane
Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with two instruments, and may use them as an arcane focus for casting your wizard spells. Additionally, you can learn and add bard spells to your spellbook as if they were wizard spells, and they count as wizard spells for you.
Themes and Variations
Beginning at 2nd level, you can weave your magic in unique ways, avoiding or targeting specific creatures as your magic catches the wind like the soundwaves of a song. When you cast a spell using your instrument as the focus that affects other creatures that you can see, you can choose a number of them equal to 1 + the spell’s level. The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell, and they take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save.
Arcane Artistry
Starting at 6th level, when you cast a wizard spell while holding your arcane focus instrument that has both verbal and somatic components, you can ignore one of those components.Additionally, your music interacts with reality in unique ways, your music piercing through air rather than vibrating it ordinarily. If you cast a wizard spell with your instrument as the focus that requires a creature to hear you, they do not have to meet this requirement to be affected by your magic.
Cover Spells
Beginning at 10th level, you can further manipulate how your magic is conjured and portrayed musically. When a spell would affect an area, you can change the area type to another of equal size. For example, you can change a 20-foot-radius sphere into a 20-foot line, or a 15-foot cube into a 15-foot-radius sphere.
You can do this {{modifier:int}} times, and regain expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Arcane Composition
Starting at 14th level, you gain the ability to weave your own magical songs. While consulting with your DM, you can take two spells with a duration of no less than 1 minute and weave their effects together. For example, you could combine the effects of a fog cloud spell with a wall of fire spell, creating a spell that conjures a wall of fire that emanates thick smoke around it.
Creating one of these spells takes 4 times the time it would take to add both spells to your spellbook, in addition to twice the cost. To combine a 2nd-level spell and a 3rd-level spell, it would take 10 hours and 250 gp. You always have these arcane compositions prepared, and they do not count against your total prepared spells.
Once you perform an arcane composition, you must complete a short rest before doing so again.
