Base Class: Fighter
Samurai begin their profession in service to a lord or master. When that service ends the Samurai has three options: find another master to serve, commit ritual suicide, or dishonor themselves and leave in poverty and disgrace with nothing but their weapon and the clothes on their back.
Most Ronin become wandering vagrants looking for trouble and libation. Some become peasant workers. Some continue the warrior profession as mercenaries, hired goons, or seek the life of an adventurer. The Ronin subclass is about these masterless warriors struggling to survive in a dangerous and unforgiving world.
The focus of the Otsuchi tradition is the use of blunt weapons to stun and incapacitate.
Disgraced
The word Ronin means "wave man", or one who is adrift, a vagrant. Upon taking the Ronin subclass you are looked down upon by everyone, including other Ronin. As such you have disadvantage on Persuasion attempts you initiate, but have learned to more effectively intimidate and deceive to get what you want. You have a +2 bonus to Deception and Intimidation checks.
Unarmored Defense
Upon losing your station in society and becoming a Ronin, you learned to survive with little protection from the environment. While you are not wearing any armor, your Armor Class equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.
Crushing Blow
Samurai who focus on the brute force tactics of the Otsuchi learn to strike with such force that armor offers limited protection. The Ronin wielding a bludgeoning weapon may use that weapon to strike with a +2 bonus to hit armored targets or targets using a shield.
Stunning Blow
As an action the Otsuchi Ronin puts all of his energy into a single powerful attack aimed at disorienting his target. On a hit with a bludgeoning weapon, in addition to dealing damage, the target must pass a Constitution save or become Stunned until the end of it's next turn. The DC for the save is 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus.
Massive Frame
Years of wielding bulky weapons and wearing heavy armor have increased your bulk, allowing you to shrug off some of the damage you receive. Bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage that you receive from nonmagical weapons is reduced by 2.
Crippling Blow
When the Ronin has the opportunity to make a melee Attack action with advantage, he may instead take the Crippling Blow action to temporarily take an opponent out of the fight.
As an action make one attack with advantage. If the attack hits the target takes damage and must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for the duration. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make another Constitution saving throw. On a success, the effect ends on the target. The DC for the save is 8 + your strength modifier + your proficiency bonus.
Anticipate Death
The Ronin enters combat expecting to die, and that is why he lives. Every time you slay an opponent you may use your reaction to heal using one of your hit dice plus your constitution modifier.
