Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

The weave is a mysterious aspect of the world, allowing many to cast magic and attain powerful abilities. One such ability was pioneered by one Machiev Nocovoli. An arch wizard in his own right, he studied what power he had within himself, as well as the power within sorcerers. Through this, he channeled his magic through several years close in practice to a monk. Machiev eventually took on pupils, teaching them the great power he found within himself. These pupils after finding magic ability within themselves wanted a greater purpose, and greater power over the world around them. These pupils saw their power as an art of war, a direct contrast to Machiev, wanting his practice to enhance study and meditation. Killing Machiev, his pupils took on the name Praetor and taught their new gifts to others, until a legion formed. Unfortunately for the Praetoran alliance, a group of Witch Hunters began a rise to power near the same time. These Witch Hunters along with the world’s collective power banded together to wipe the Praetoran regime from history. While the tradition wasn’t banned, most studies were burned, with the practice mostly looked at as taboo. The tradition while not forbidden will be watched closely by those who recognize it for what it once was. The fate of the Praetoran practice is up to the new generation, whether it be following behind Machiev’s erudition, or to bring carnage to their foes.

Spellcaster’s Erudition

At 2nd level, your almost meditative study has brought you boons of magical proportions. The number of spells you have prepared is increased by an amount equal to your Wisdom Modifier (minimum of one spell). On top of that, you also gain an extra Wizard cantrip, and an amount of spells equal to your Wisdom modifier. These spells must be at a level in which you can cast.

Praetoran Form

At 2nd level, you begin to tap into a large portion of dormant magic within you, bringing it forth in it’s purest form. Exceeding the limits of magic set within you, a large portion of magic engulfs your mortal frame. On your turn, you can enter the Praetoran form as a bonus action. While Praetoran is activated, you gain the following benefits:

  • When making a spell attack, you get a bonus to damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.
  • While in this state you may cast any spell you have in your possession, even if you don’t have it prepared at the moment.
  • While in this state, you get a bonus to AC equal to your Wisdom Modifier. If Mage armor is cast while in this state, you choose Dexterity or Wisdom for it’s effect, not both.

Your Praetoran form lasts for 1 minute, and ends early if you are knocked unconscious or end your Praetoran form on your turn as a bonus action. Once you have used your Praetor mode a number of times equal to your Proficiency bonus, you must finish a long rest before you can do so again.

Well Of Untapped Magic

At 6th level, you attain a greater mastery over the potential magic and that of others. You can now pull straight from the magic within your space and within yourself to restore magic. As an action, you can target a choice creature you can touch and roll a d4. Your roll on this dice determines an amount of spell slots you give or regain yourself. The spell slots regained must equal the amount on the dice. For example, if you roll a 4, you can either obtain two 2nd level slots, or four 1st level slots.
You can use this feature an amount of times equal to your Wisdom Modifier. When you’ve used this feature the amount given earlier, you must finish a long rest to regain this feature.

Spell Surge

At 6th level, you further your control over your inner most magic, in a deeper and more destructive manner than normal. You roll one additional spell damage die when determining extra damage for a critical hit with spell damage.
This increases to two additional die at 11th level, and three at 16th.

Arcane Resilience

Beginning at 10th level, you learn to manipulate the properties of your magic in another manner, making your magic more resilient. When you enter your Praetoran form and cast a spell of 6th level or lower, you can regain one expended spell slot of a level lower than the spell casted. This feature does not work with the Spell Mastery or Signature, because you are not casting with the use of spell slots.

Savant’s Constitution

At 14th level, potential limits shatter, and your magic becomes a shield of knowledge and a drive to action. When you enter Praetoran Form, you become resistant to damage done by spells and other magical effects. Additionally, the form has no limit to how long it can last, and only ends if you are knocked unconscious or end it yourself.
