Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

The provocators are trained duelists and due to their typically heavily armored style, fights between these warriors are often very technical. The provocatores are not as mobile as some gladiators due to their fairly heavy set of armor. Battles between them would have been akin to a fighting chess match. Both gladiators would be careful about closing the distance on their foe, likely keeping their defenses high.

Issue challenge

Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you can choose one humanoid at a time within 10 feet of you to duel, as a bonus action. They must make a charisma saving throw (DC 15 + your charisma) otherwise the creature is forced to accept. The duel lasts until you use a bonus action to end the duel, the humanoid dies, or you end your turn over 15 feet away from it. At the end of each of your opponents turns they can choose to retake the saving throw to escape the challenge

While dueling, both participants have disadvantage on all attack rolls made against all other creatures and their movements are halved.

Retaliate

If the person you are dueling misses a melee attack while within 5ft of you, you may make a melee attack against them as a reaction.

Ruthless attack

Each round that you attack only the person you are dueling you do an extra 1d4 (eg. round 1: +1d4, round 2: +2d4 etc)

Increased ruthless attack

Your 1d4 becomes a 1d6

Superior ruthless attack

Your 1d6 becomes 1d8

Quick reactions

You can use your retaliate feature without expending a reaction.

Master duelist

The person you're dueling can no longer make a charisma saving throw to escape the duel and their speed is reduced to zero.
