Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Eclipse often begin as individuals who have suffered directly or indirectly because of magic. This order of monks focus their abilities on defending themselves and others against magic, and will not stand idly by as spells are used with whimsy or malice on defenseless people. In most cases their empathy spurs them to action, but not always - the suffering that can drive a person to walk the path of the Eclipse may also inspire a cold rage that makes hunting magic users its own reward.

Students of Eclipse asceticism are also known as Disciples of the Void, with those who have mastered the Way being referred to as Apostles. The order has its roots in reverence of the perfect entropy of Null.

The philosophy of the Eclipse attracts those who have been scorned or suffered at the hands of spellcasters. From its origin to its current state, practitioners strive to become completely untouchable by magic and able to readily deny those who wield it.

Eclipse Ascetics tend to take a very reactionary approach and are generally neutral in alignment - while they don't often crusade to secure the freedom of others, they will not hesitate to intervene on the behalf of those suffering from any real and present tyranny if they can see themselves in the place of the victim. Some are much more vicious, lashing out against all spellcasters and magic users in a quest to end the possibility of whatever happened to them from happening again.

Practitioners of Eclipse asceticism believe that the disenfranchised must ultimately learn to protect themselves. Any intercession or apparent martyrdom on their part is transitory, and always a personal choice, to assist another being incapable but willing to secure their own freedom. Their philosophy is inherently selfish, but not inherently compassionless.

All those who follow the Philosophy undergo arduous training, and aspiring Disciples often end up ritualistically breaking themselves apart to pour out previous notions and start anew with an empty metaphorical cup.

Occultation

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can use your ki to duplicate the effects of certain spells. As an action you can spend 2 ki points to cast Knock, Shatter, See Invisibility, or Silence without material components. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Additionally, you gain the ability to cast Detect Magic as a ritual without spending ki points.

Penumbral Embrace

At 6th level, you may use your knowledge of spells to counter them by striking opponents or objects in places that bind spells to them. If you target a person, object, or ongoing magical effect with a melee or ranged attack on your turn and hit, you may spend 2 ki points to cast Dispel Magic on that target or magical effect as a bonus action, without using verbal, somatic or material components.

Alternatively, as a reaction when a creature you can see begins to cast a spell, you may make a melee or ranged weapon attack against that creature. If you hit, you may spend 2 ki points to cast Counterspell on that target as part of the attack, without using verbal, somatic or material components.

If the weapon or unarmed strike you are using to make these attacks has a magical bonus, you may add this bonus to any ability check required by either Dispel Magic or Counterspell. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Lunar Eclipsism

Additionally, you may use a bonus action and spend 2 ki points to end one spell currently affecting an ally within 5 feet of you.

At 17th level you gain advantage on saving throws against spells. As long as you have 1 ki point remaining, any ally within 10 feet also gains advantage on saving throws against spells.

Void Apostle

At 17th level, you can use your ki to duplicate some of the most powerful known abjurations. As an action you can spend 6 ki points to cast Antimagic Field without verbal, somatic or material components. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Additionally, you become immune to the charmed condition, divination spells, psychic damage, and any effect that would sense your emotions or read your thoughts. This ability even foils Wish spells and effects of similar power used to affect your mind or gain information about you.
