Base Class: Monk
A Monk of the Way of the Ground Fighter is able to use sheer technique to stop and harm their opponent. They are able to add their wisdom modifier to their grapple attempts, pin enemies to cause painful body stress, and eventually use their understanding of grappling to become inescapable. Don't let one of these monks get a hold of you.
Grappler
When you reach 3rd level in this class, you become skilled at grappling your opponent. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike or monk weapon on your turn, you can use a bonus action to attempt to grapple the target. When you use your flurry of blows feature, you can replace one of the attacks with a grapple attempt. If this grapple succeeds, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to your martial arts die.
Honed Technique
Additionally, at 3rd level, you gain a bonus to your athletics skill equal to your wisdom modifier when starting or maintaining a grapple.
Mastered Technique
At 6th level, when you make a grapple attempt against a creature, you can spend 1 ki point to add up to double your proficiency bonus for grapple checks for the rest of your turn, rather than any normal proficiency bonus.
Steel Core
In addition, at 6th level, you can grapple creatures up to two sizes larger than you.
Vicegrip
At 11th level, you can attempt to shift your grapple into a hold. Make another grapple attempt against a creature you are currently grappling on your turn. If you succeed, you and the creature are both restrained. While you and the creature are restrained in this way, you can use a bonus action to deal force damage to the creature equal to 2 rolls of your martial arts die. You can spend up to 3 ki points to increase the damage you deal with this feature equal to an additional roll of your martial arts die per ki point spent (for a maximum of 5). You can only use this feature if both of your hands are empty.
Shift Control
At 17th level, you are near impossible to escape from. When a creature attempts to break from your grapple and succeeds, you can use your reaction to attempt to grapple them again. If this grapple attempt succeeds, you deal force damage to the creature equal to your monk level.
