Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Paladins of this Oath are champions of the marginalized and misunderstood in society. Unlike their more extroverted brethren, many Paladins of this Oath avoid ceremony and civilization, preferring to live in small towns or frontier communities, or even as hermits. They may eschew traditional trappings, preferring to travel incognito without outward markings of religious affiliation. Despite their more subdued presentation, members of this Oath Path make ready friends and are generous with others. Fellowship is their first driving principle, and while they have a strong sense of justice they are not quick to judge a situation before understanding it fully.  While not vengeful, these Oath-holders have learned that traditional justice systems are often colored by biases, and may need a little "help" at times; they reserve a special form of wrath for those who prey upon the lost and alone, such as slavers, cults and the like. Their dogma is as follows:

  • Promote harmony and acceptance among races and peoples
  • Offer fellowship to strangers and protect the vulnerable from persecution
  • Repay rudeness with kindness
  • Repay violence with swift retribution, that its perpetrator may not do further harm

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Champion Challenge. As a bonus action, you issue a challenge that compels other creatures to do battle with you. Each creature of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature can’t willingly move more than 30 feet away from you and has disadvantage when targeting other creatures for attack. This effect ends on the creature if you are incapacitated or die or if the creature is more than 30 feet away from you.

Vow of Retribution. As a bonus action, you can utter a vow of enmity against a creature you can see within 30 feet of you who has previously targeted you or an ally, using your Channel Divinity. You gain advantage on attack rolls against the creature for 1 minute or until it drops to 0 hit points or falls unconscious.

Bond of Defense

Starting at 7th level, when a creature within 15 feet of you takes damage, you can use your reaction to magically substitute your own health for that of the target creature, causing that creature to take half the damage they would otherwise absorb. You take the same amount of damage. This damage to you can’t be further reduced or prevented in any way.

Righteous Soul

Starting at 15th level, the authority with which you speak your Vow of Retribution gives you greater power over your foe. When a creature under the effect of your Vow of Retribution makes an attack, you can use your reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature if it is within range.

Harmonious Emissary

At 20th level, you become an avatar of peace, which gives you two benefits:

  • You have resistance to all damage dealt by other creatures (their attacks, spells, and other effects).
  • Whenever a creature hits you with an attack, it takes radiant damage equal to half the damage you take from the attack.

If you attack a creature, cast a spell on it, or deal damage to it by any means but this feature, neither benefit works against that creature until you finish a long rest.
