Base Class: Fighter

The ancient history of dragons and their influence on the realms has long been known to almost all mortal denizens. What has been nearly forgotten are the warriors who sought to emulate the dragon's power and grace in their fighting style. Clad in shining armor in reverence to the dragons, the dragoons wielded long reaching weapons as they rode into battle atop drakes and wyverns. Though only a few remain, those who are trained in the art of the dragon become unpredictable and unstoppable combatants.

Enhanced Weaponry

When you start, you are specially trained to make maximum use of polearms, and gain proficiency in these. When wielding any polearm, the damage die for the weapon is determined by the polearm type.

Javelin, Spear, and Trident use 1d8 when Thrown.

Spear and Trident use 1d10 when used as a melee weapon with both hands; 1d8 if used with one hand.

Pike, Halberd, and Glaive use 1d12.

Lance use 1d12, plus an additional 2 to the damage roll of the die.

Double Jump

Starting at the 7th level, after you make an initial jump, you can jump again in mid-air in any single direction up to 15 feet. The number of consecutive mid-air jumps increases to 2 at level 15. The additional jumps count as free move actions.

Additionally, when you succeed on a Dexterity saving throw to avoid an area of effect attack, you can make a single jump up to half your base speed. If you land outside the area of effect, you do not suffer half damage if you would have otherwise.

Soaring Strike

Beginning at level 3, you can make a standing jump in any single direction up to 30 feet. This uses your full move action regardless of distance traveled. As long as you are not unconscious or restrained, you do not take fall damage if the fall is less than your maximum possible jump height.

If you jump at least 10 feet towards a creature, and make and succeed an attack action in the same turn, you may roll another damage die as bonus damage to the attack. You must be wielding a two-handed or versatile piercing melee weapon with both hands. This increases to 2 additional damage dies at level 10, and 3 additional damage dies at level 18.

Draconic Tongue

At level 3 you learn to read, write and speak Draconic

Dragonic Lore

At level 10, you are considered proficient in History or Nature checks relating to Dragons or Dragon kin. If you are already proficient in these skills, you gain double proficiency on these checks.

You also have advantage against Large or larger targets when you attempt a Soaring Strike against them and on saving throws against being frightened.

Thunderous Leap

At level 15, when you make an initial leap from the ground, all creatures within 5 feet of you take twice your Strength modifier in Thunder damage and they cannot make opportunity attacks against you.

Pierce the Scales

At level 18, Soaring Strike can crit at a die roll of 19. Additionally, you can forgo the additional critical damage and instead stun the targeted creature until the end of its next turn.
