Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of the Setting Sun train diligently to guard against the abuse of magic. These practitioners condition their minds and bodies by subjecting themselves to harmful magical effects, allowing them to focus their ki to counter arcane energy. Members of this tradition practice techniques which allow them to bend and warp the flow of magical energy.

Coronal Sight

3rd-level Way of the Setting Sun feature

As an action, you can reach out with your instincts to detect the faint distortions created by the presence of magic. For one minute, you see a faint magical aura around any visible creature or object affected by a spell or magical effect, including any magic item, within 30 feet of you that isn't behind total cover. For the duration, you can use your action to focus on a single creature or object to learn the level and school of the highest level spell currently affecting the target. If the target is a creature, you additionally learn the highest level of spell that the target can cast if any.

This feature reveals no information about a creature or object that is hidden from divination magic by a spell or other magical effect.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Winds of Deflection

3rd-level Way of the Setting Sun feature

You can use Deflect Missiles when you are targeted by a damage-dealing melee or ranged spell attack or a magic missile spell. If you reduce the damage to 0, the spell has no effect on you and you can spend 1 ki point to reflect the spell as part of the same reaction, provided you have a free hand. If you reflect a spell in this way, the spell instead targets the caster, using the slot level, spell save DC, attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the caster.

Flash of Sunset

6th-level Way of the Setting Sun feature

As an action, you can spend 1 ki point to touch a willing creature and end one spell effect of your choice affecting that creature. When you use your Flurry of Blows, you can replace one of the unarmed strikes with a use of this feature without spending a ki point. The level of the spell you end with one use of this feature must be equal to or lower than your monk level divided by 3.

Alternatively, you can spend a ki point when you hit a creature with an unarmed strike to use this feature to affect that creature.

Distant Horizon

11th-level Way of the Setting Sun feature

You have learned to exploit the holes in reality torn by reckless magic. When a creature within 30 feet of you that you can see casts a spell, you can use your reaction to teleport up to 30 feet into an unoccupied space that you can see. If you move into a space within 5 feet of a creature, you can make an unarmed strike attack against that creature as a part of the same reaction. Additionally, you can spend 3 ki points to cast misty step.

Umbra of Waning Magic

17th-level Way of the Setting Sun feature

Your focused ki emanates into an field of magical interference. You and friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects. Additionally, whenever a creature within the aura casts a spell of 1st-level or higher, you can force the creature to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the spell fails and has no effect.
