Base Class: Rogue
Although most rogues use their honed senses and cunning insight for personal gain, no one excels at such endeavors like the chessmaster. Typically, they dwell at the centers of complex networks of lies, minions, or simply precious information, from which they dispense commands, threats, and rumors, all carefully crafted to increase the power of their peculiar empires. While chessmasters often act as the heads of illicit organizations like criminal families, thieves’ guilds, or corruption-riddled bureaucracies, they aren’t always evil.
Master of Many Disciplines
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Persuasion and Intimidation skills if you were not already proficient. You also gain proficiency with the Poisoner's Kit and the Alchemist’s Supplies, and learn one additional language of your choice.
Stroke of Inspiration
Starting at 3rd level, you are able to augment ability checks through a stroke of brilliant inspiration. As part of an ability check, you may roll 1d6 and add the result to the the sum of the check. This choice is made after the check is rolled and before the results are revealed. You can only use inspiration once per check or roll. You may use this ability a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier and regain any expended uses when you finish a short or long rest. Your inspiration die becomes a d8 at 8th level, a d10 at 13th level, and a d12 at 18th level.
A Quiet Word
At 9th level you can add your Intelligence modifier to Persuasion, Intimidation, and Deception skill checks in addition to your Charisma modifier. You may also spend 10 minutes preparing an ally to make a single Persuasion, Intimidation, or Deception skill check within the next 24-hour period at your behest. This allows your affected ally to add your proficiency bonus to the skill check, or double your proficiency bonus if you have Expertise. The ally still uses their own ability score for this check. Furthermore, when you use this ability, you can expend one use of inspiration to give the ally use of the inspiration die when making the check.
Soul of Deceit
Starting at 13th level, your thoughts can't be read by telepathy or other means, unless you allow it. You can present false thoughts by making a Charisma (Deception) check contested by the mind reader's Wisdom (Insight) check.
Additionally, no matter what you say, magic that would determine if you are telling the truth indicates you are being truthful if you so choose, and you can't be compelled to tell the truth by magic.
Obey
At 17th level, your ability to bend people to your will is unparalleled. You can cast Mass Suggestion using Intelligence as your Spellcasting ability. You regain use of this feature after you finish a long rest.
