Base Class: Monk
Dragon Slayer Monks are almost impossible to come across as they are trained in Lairs by their Dragon Master and only a handful are roaming the planes. Whether a Dragon becomes the tutor for justice or malevolence, the intensive training allows their student to harness the power and ferocity of Dragons.
Dragon Slayer Monks are often less graceful than their conventional counterparts, reflecting the intensity and ferocity of their Master. They tend to end up as Mercenaries or Royal Bodyguards due to their sheer power and wisdom. The most important value of these rare fighters is that due to their study and training from a Dragon, they have become adept at fighting Dragons themselves. This often leads their Dragon Master to be cautious when teaching them and they will often cease the training before it is complete so the chance of being betrayed is minimised.
Draconic Ki
Starting when you choose this tradition at the 3rd level, your Dragon Slayer training begins to manifest itself in your ki. Choose the nature of your Dragon Master from the table below. You gain the following benefits, each of which is augmented by your Dragon Master's nature.
Dragon Master
| DRAGON | DAMAGE TYPE | BREATH WEAPON |
|---|---|---|
| Black | Acid | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Blue | Lightning | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Brass | Fire | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Bronze | Lightning | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Copper | Acid | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Gold | Fire | 15 ft. cone (Dex. save) |
| Green | Poison | 15 ft. cone (Con. save) |
| Red | Fire | 15 ft. cone (Dex. save) |
| Silver | Cold | 15 ft. cone (Con. save) |
| White | Cold | 15 ft. cone (Con. save) |
You can speak, read, and write Draconic. Additionally, whenever you make an Intimidation check when interacting with Dragons, add your proficiency bonus to the check. If you already have proficiency in Intimidation, your proficiency is doubled if it applies to the check.
Damage Resistance: You gain resistance to your Dragon Master's element.
Breath Weapon: You can use your action to expend 2 ki points in order to exhale destructive energy. Your Dragon Master determines the size, shape, and damage type of this weapon. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the in the area of effect must make a Dexterity saving throw. The saving throw for this attack is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier. A creature takes 3d6 damage on a failed save, and half damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 4d6 at the 6th level, 5d6 at the 11th level, and 6d6 at the 16th level.
Dragon Slayer's Strikes: When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can empower your strikes with the element of your Dragon Master. Once on each of your turns, when you hit a creature with an Unarmed Strike, you can spend 1 ki point to deal additional damage to the target. The bonus damage is 1d4 for 1 ki, plus 1d4 per additional ki spent after the first ki point, to a maximum of 5d4. The damage die of this ability increases with your Martial Arts table.
Whenever your Unarmed Strikes deal damage to a creature with the Dragon type, you deal additional bludgeoning damage to the target. Roll one additional martial arts die for the attack's damage against the target.
Draconic Consumption
When you reach 6th level, your proficiency with your Draconic Ki has enabled your body to withstand your attuned element to the point where you can consume some of its energy. Over the course of 10 minutes, you can consume your Dragon Master's element from a non-hostile source at will instead of normal food (for example you can eat a snowball, drink a vial of acid or eat the flame of a torch or small bonfire) and regain Ki equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1).
Emergency Consumption: When you would take damage that is the same damage type as your Dragon master's, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by 1d10 + your wisdom modifier + your monk level. If you reduce the damage to 0, you regain Ki equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1). You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1). You regain all uses of Emergency Consumption at the end of a Long Rest.
Elemental Combination
At 11th level, your rigorous training and understanding of how to manifest your Draconic Ki has risen to such a level that you have learnt how to channel a second element. Choose a second Dragon Master from the previous table or choose an Uncommon Master from the table below. You gain all previous features with this new Dragon Master Element, however you may not use both damage types on the same attack when using your Dragon Slayer's Strikes ability if you do more than 1 die of additional damage. You must select which element to attack with at the start of the attack, you may alternate between attacks though. This restriction also applies to your Elemental Consumption Class Feature, if you are hit by an attack that does two types of damage, you may only consume a single damage type at a time.
| Uncommon Dragon Master | DAMAGE TYPE | BREATH WEAPON |
|---|---|---|
| Platinum | Radiant | 5 by 30 ft. line (Dex. save) |
| Shadow | Necrotic | 15 ft. cone (Dex. save) |
Draconic Ki Enhancement
By 11th level, your attunement to your Draconic Ki allows your body to require less Ki to unleash your Dragon Slayer abilities.
Enhanced Breath Weapon
Using your Breath Weapon feature now only costs you 1 Ki.
Enhanced Dragon Slayer's Strikes
Summoning your Draconic Ki to your enhance your attacks becomes much easier for you, whenever you take the Attack action with an Unarmed Strike, the creature takes additional damage equal to your Martial Arts Die. This damage type can be either of your Dragon Master elements.
Dragon Force
At 17th level, you have mastered control over your Draconic Ki allowing you to temporarily gain the full power of a Dragon. As a bonus action you can spend 5 Ki points to transform yourself. Your skin gains a thick layer of scales, your canines sharpen to a point and your eyes glaze over with magical energy. While in this form, you gain the following benefits:
- You gain immunity to both of your Dragon Master elements.
- You can use your Breath Weapon as a bonus action.
- Whenever you deal damage of the same type as your Dragon Master using one of your class features, deal additional damage equal to your Wisdom modifier, this additional damage can be either of your Dragon Master elements.
- Your unarmed strikes score a critical hit on a 19 or 20.
- Whenever you deal damage of the same type as your Dragon Master, ignore resistance to the damage and immunity is treated as resistance.
This transformation lasts for one minute, until you are knocked unconscious or until you use another bonus action to end it.

At 17th Level, you have grown so attuned to using your Draconic Ki that it now takes little effort to unlock its power.

Posted Jun 24, 2021Hello again. I had a thought. Maybe for this class you could include an optional feature where instead of using dex you could use Strength. Since the dragon slayers end up being physically powerful in some way. Just a thought. Keep up the good wor

Posted Oct 24, 2020If this is what you've found through testing and iteration to be the best, then I will trust your word on it. Plus it's very fitting, seeing as dragons get stronger with age. I hope to be able to use this some day!

Posted Oct 24, 2020Hey, thanks for the comment! I've gone through a number of iterations and it feels fairly weak in the early game but as soon as your martials arts die increases you really feel that power boost. The reason I introduced breath weapon at that level was mainly due to the fact that I found that at higher levels, it didn't feel worth it to use a full action for a comparable amount of damage as well as Ki for the attack, whereas in the earlier levels that choice feels more impactful. Just something that I've found with my testing, just like how the level of damage is something that has been tried and tested and gradually balanced to a level that I am pretty happy with.

Posted Oct 23, 2020For a very obvious Fairy Tail reference, you've managed to create something very unique and interesting. I like the simple augmentation of your attacks, and it feels very in flavor for the aesthetic. I would either reduce the power of the breath weapon or move it to the level 6 augmentation to tie the ability to your ability to consume energy. Either way, you've made something really, really solid and that's about all I would change. (Also my only concern is maybe the extra damage is too weak? Maybe scale up the damage but you've gone through 10 iterations? I enjoy the idea of it being like smite though.)
