Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

An arrow slices through the sky, barreling towards its target, only for a shadowy force to step in its way deflecting it.  A traveler watches as his attacker’s cower, paralyzed with fear as he drains all light around them.  A smug young man watches as the charging guard are dragging to the ground, struggling to escape from the inky tendrils extending off his shadow.  The party breathes a sigh of relief as the paladin succeeds in finally cutting down their foe’s shadowy servant only lose all hope as their foe snaps their fingers and summons it back.

Whatever it was; a towering shadowed creature, a smoke like mass, an inky clawed hand.  Long ago it offered you a choice and you accepted.  Greedily it ripped and drained your essence nearly to nothing, but replaced it with something greater.  A new form of life was breathed into you leaving you and your own shadow, forever changed.

You no longer fear the dark, because the dark does as you command.

Expanded Spell List

This subclass cannot be publicized due to it's spell list including some things you can only use if you buy the books so I'm just going to list them here:

Spell Level:

  • 1st: Dissonant Whispers, Inflict Wounds
  • 2nd: Pass Without a Trace, Warding Bond
  • 3rd: Summon Shadow Spirit, Bestow Curse
  • 4th: Confusion, Phantasmal Killer
  • 5th: Wall of Force, Destructive Wave

Shadow's Reach

Beginning at first level your shadow has grown to develop a life of its own.  You can now command it to extend to anywhere within a range of 30ft as long as it possess a proper surface to traverse and it is within sight. Whilst doing so you may interact with objects and mechanisms as if you were there.  As well you can cast spells that require touch through the shadow.  At 3rd level and every 3 levels after your range increases by 20 feet.

Phantasmal Servant

Also at first level you gain the ability to summon a phantasmal servant to your side. The servant looks however you wish but is always humanoid.  The being follows your orders and can aid you in either distracting enemies or protecting you.  Out of battle the shadow can move freely within a mile distance of you in order to perform whatever task it is ordered. In battle its range equals your shadow's reach.  It cannot attack, but in battle can be ordered to frighten enemies (help action) as a bonus action or intercept attacks as a reaction.  The being possess hit points equal to (1d6+ your charisma modifier) times your warlock level.  Its armor class is equal to 10 + your own dexterity + charisma modifier. Their speed is equal to yours and mimics your own if modified by enchantments or items.  On a reaction if the attack roll surpasses its AC the being takes the damage.  If reduced to 0 it dissipates.  If the original attack roll would have succeeded against you, you take the remaining damage.

While your shadow is dissipated you cannot use any of your pact abilities requiring your shadow. To resummon it one must concentrate for 10 minutes.

Haunting Presence

At sixth level your control over your shadow and your bond with your servant grows stronger.  While your shadow is connected you gain darkvision up to 60ft and you can see through magical darkness up to 10ft.  While by your side you can manipulate your servant’s shadowy energy, giving all within 15ft of you disadvantage to resist your persuasion or intimidation rolls.  If disconnected your servant can be summoned back to your side as a full action, no matter their location

Umbral Carnage

At 10th level your shadow can do more than just channel spells. Large inky claws form to slash or latch onto enemies. You gain two claws at 10th level and a third at 15th.  Your claws can make a spell attack roll dealing 1d8 necrotic damage.  You can also choose to grab enemies, grappling using your spell attack bonus.  Much like a multi attack you can command all your claws as a single action either to attack a single enemy or multiple.  Using at least two claws to trap an enemy gives them disadvantage on their athletics checks to break free.  Alternatively on a turn you have not used your claws to attack or grapple, actively grappling does not count, you can command your servant to make their own claw attack as a bonus action.  At 15th level they can make two claw attacks.  When summoned back to your side as a full action they may make one attack as a free action.

    • Eldritch invocations applying to eldritch blast when taken are applied to your claws as well, allowing you to strengthen their reach, push or pull enemies, slow them or even harm them.  Additionally your claws and servant can move freely through areas under spell effects of your casting, ignoring damage and passing through freely, unless radiant damage is being dealt.

Eternal Guardian

At 14th level your servant’s hit points change from d6’s to d8’s.  When your servant is reduced to 0 hit points you can choose to end one eldritch invocation to resummon them immediately.  Alternatively you can send your servant to self-destruct, exploding into black ichor.  Enemies within 30 feet must make a dexterity saving throw versus your spell save. On a fail enemies take 6d8 necrotic damage and their speed is reduced to half for the next minute.  On a success the targets take half damage and are not slowed.  You cannot use this feature or regain your invocation until after a long rest.
