Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of The Secret is ancient and a well-kept hidden secret to all except the highest members of the clergy. Many of these "Shadow Knights" are used for infiltration, subterfuge, and assassination if deemed necessary. Fanatical cultists, maniacal necromancers, and devious kings are often the targets of the immense wrath of these invisible warriors. Those who are unlucky enough to come across one of these paladins either never live to tell about it, or become so frightened by the sight that they refuse to tell. Very few Oath of The Secret paladins work with others while on clergy business, but those that do form deep bonds with their fellow companions.

Tenets of The Secret

The tenets of the Oath of The Secret have never been written, but are continually passed down with each generation through stories and initiation ceremonies. Those that notice these tenets are more likely to become an Oath of Secrets paladin than their fellow acolytes.

Infiltration. Become one with those around you, learn their habits, their strengths and weaknesses, even their favorite color. Learn everything about your enemy so you may use it all against them.

Subterfuge. Lie every possible lie until you cannot, and then lie some more. Keeping your real identity a secret is more important than the story you create for a fake one.

Assassination. Spilled blood is inevitable, but make sure it is absolutely necessary before doing so. Killing the wrong person at the wrong time leads to more trouble than its worth.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3 level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Turn a Blind Eye. You can use your Channel Divinity to confuse and misdirect your enemies. As an action, you present your holy symbol and cast the invisibility spell.

Wrath of Secrets. You can use your Channel Divinity to flood someone’s mind with more knowledge than they can handle. As an action, you can cause a number of creatures' equal to half your paladin level (rounded up) minds to overload with information within 30 feet of you that can see. Each creature must make a Constitution saving throw or be stunned as ancient knowledge floods their thoughts. While in this state, the creature falls prone and convulses in pain from the incomprehensible amount of information rushes into them. The creature can make a saving throw to come out at the end of its turn and any time it takes damage. Once the creature comes to consciousness, they can only remember tiny portions of information learned while unconscious.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of Devotion Spells

Silent Step

Beginning at 7 level, you have become skilled at getting into places you shouldn't. You gain proficiency in Dexterity (Stealth) and can now cast spells without making any sound.

At 18th level, you gain expertise in Dexterity (Stealth).

Shadow Guardian

Starting at 15 level, when you make a melee attack from stealth, you can choose to deal an extra 4d6 sneak attack damage on a hit. Once you use this ability, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Unknown Hero

At 20 level, you can become one with the heroes of the past and assume the form a moving shadow. Using your action, you undergo a transformation. For 1 minute you gain the following benefits:

  • Attacks against you have disadvantage due to your body become a shadow.
  • You have the ability to teleport from an area of dim or dark light you can see within 60 feet as a bonus action. Your next attack from this position deals double damage.

Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
