Base Class: Warlock
Your patron is a powerful being now dead. All that remains is a crystalline stone - perhaps murky and jagged, perhaps brilliant and ornate. The being lives on inside the stone, and shares its lingering powers with the Warlock for any reason it chooses to. The patron might consider the Warlock a convenient pawn for its agenda, or maybe the patron is merely lonely and the Warlock is its last friend.
Magicite
The Warlock uses the Magicite containing their patron as the arcane focus for all Warlock spellcasting abilities. The Magicite is a wondrous item that requires attunement. If the Warlock does not have the Magicite on their person, they cannot cast their Warlock spells. The Magicite has the following properties.
Superior Focus - The Warlock receives a spellcasting ability bonus equal to half their proficiency bonus, rounded down.
Indestructible - The Magicite cannot be destroyed.
Repossession - The Warlock can use an action to call the Magicite back into their possession. If the Magicite is not being held by a creature, it reappears in the Warlock's hand. If the Magicite is held by a creature resisting the Warlock, they makes a contested check. The Warlock rolls their Arcana ability, and the resisting creature rolls either Arcana or Athletics to retain the Magicite. The winner of the contest holds the Magicite, and the loser takes force damage equal to the margin of the loss.
Dispelled - If Dispel Magic is cast on the Magicite, its powers are suppressed for as many hours as the level of the spell slot. During this time, a ritual can be performed to destroy the Patron or to attune the Magicite to a new owner. If the Patron chooses to accept the new owner, they gain one Warlock level using this Patron. If not, they gain the benefits of the Magicite as a wondrous item. If the Patron is destroyed, the Patron entity is removed from the material plane and the Magicite loses all magical powers unless a Greater Restoration or similar effect is cast upon it. While the Magicite is Patron is destroyed or the Magicite is dispelled or attuned by another creature, the Warlock loses all their Warlock spellcasting powers.
Restoration - The Warlock can use an action to remove the dispelled effect on the Magicite. The Warlock must succeed in a Charisma saving throw against the spellcasting DC of the creature who dispelled it. Also, the Warlock can cast Greater Restoration on the Magicite as a ritual. This is an exception to the loss of spellcasting abilities if the Patron is destroyed.
Summon Patron
Starting at 1st Level, the Warlock can summon the patron contained in the stone. The patron is incorporeal, projecting only an appearance of itself along with a spectacular effect. Choose any spell (with a casting time of 1 action) up to one level higher than the level of your Warlock spell slots. This spell can be from any class. Summoning the patron casts this spell. If the Warlock has unlocked Mystic Arcanum abilities, the spell can be cast as if it used a spell slot with a level as high as the Warlock's highest Mystic Arcanum ability.
This ability can only be used once and requires a long rest before it can be used again. A different spell (replacing the old one) can be chosen for the entity every time the Warlock gains a level.
Magic Warrior
Starting at 6th Level, the Magicite can be embedded into another wearable or wieldable item. When that item is equipped, it is usable as an arcane focus and applies all the benefits of the Magicite. Embedding the Magicite is a ritual, and once performed the Warlock has proficiency with the item. Furthermore, the item is considered magical and provides a bonus equal to the Magicite's Superior Focus bonus, either to attack and damage rolls (if a weapon) or to AC (if armor).
If the Warlock chooses to embed the Magicite into a pact weapon, the Magicite will remain with the Warlock when the pact weapon is dismissed. The Magicite automatically embeds itself again when the pact weapon is materialized, but this requires the repossession action if the Magicite is not in the Warlock's possession.
Mighty Summoner
Starting at 10th Level, when the Warlock summons the patron, one of these benefits may be applied to the spell:
- Duration is doubled.
- Attack is rolled with advantage.
- Saving Throws are made with disadvantage.
- Any number of damage and/or healing dice can be rerolled once.
Embodiment of Power
Starting at 14th Level, the Warlock embodies the power of their Patron. One ability score is increased by 1 point, a different ability score is increased by 2 points, and a third is increased by 3. The Warlock also gains proficiency in any skill and expertise in a skill they already have proficiency in (perhaps the skill that was just chosen). This increase cannot raise an ability score over 20. This transformative bonus remains even if the Magicite is not equipped or if the Patron is destroyed.
