Monk
Base Class: Monk

You have spent many years training with an ancient dragon who has passed on their arcane knowledge to you. This training imbues part of the dragons very essence and soul within you as you slowly harness features of your master, almost as if you consumed them.

The world is wide, ever evolving and full of mystery. Some of these dragons aren't all of the typical chromatic and metallic types but of much more rarer elements and some may be masters of an element that you may not expect. Were you raised as a child in the wilderness by your dragon master or were you raised in a monastery or community that was run and protected by a dragon. Perhaps you weren't aware that you were being trained by a dragon as they spent all their time with you in a humanoid form. These are decisions for you and your DM to work on.

Creator note: This subclass was inspired by the Dragon Slayers of Fairy Tail but is not a full copy of all abilities used in the manga/anime. I have taken creative choices to keep the essence of my inspiration while keeping it balanced for Dungeons and Dragons.

Dragon Master

You have been trained in the arcane power of a mighty dragon, harnessing their abilities and combining them with your martial prowess. Upon choosing this tradition you gain learn to speak read and write in Draconic, if you can't already, and you must choose a dragon master who has trained you in ancient dragon techniques of a single element in particular.

The Dragon Master options are based off of the damage type they'll focus on other than the dragon colour, this leaves more creativity for you and your DM to use alternative dragon types other than the traditional metallic or chromatic dragons. There are some dragon suggestions under each feature option but feel free to get creative with your DM.

Dragon Claws

As a bonus action, you can make your unarmed strikes deal greater damage until the end of your next turn. Once activated, when you strike an enemy using an unarmed strike you deal an extra martial arts damage die which increases as your martial arts die increases. The damage type is dependant on the type of dragon you chose.

You can only use this feature once per long rest. This increases to twice at 7th level, three times at 11th level and four times at 17th level.

Dragon Wing Strikes

As a bonus action you can spend 2 ki points to increase your unarmed attack range to 15ft striking your enemies from a greater distance and with added force with an extra 1d6 damage of your dragon type. This lasts until the end of your turn.

You can spend additional ki points to increase the damage. Each additional ki point you spend increases the dragon type damage by 1d6. The maximum number of ki points (2 plus any additional points) that you can spend on the spell equals half your monk level.

On a success they take half damage.

You can increase the range by 10ft and damage by 1d8 per 2 extra ki points you spend.

Dragon Force

At 17th level you are able to embody characteristics of you dragon master. As a bonus action your body gains scales similar to your chosen dragon as well as becoming wreathed in a magical aura of the same type. You gain resistance to that dragons damage type. This lasts for 10 minutes. You can extinguish the Dragon Force as a free action. You can activate the Dragon Force the same amount of times as you constitution modifier.

If a creature hits you with a melee attack while your Dragon Force is active, the aura gives you the option to retaliate, letting you use your reaction to deal damage of the same type as your chosen dragon to the creature. The damage equals 5 + your Wisdom modifier.
