Base Class: Wizard
A group of wizards that dedicate their lives to the pursuit of reading and arcane discovery, to the point where those magics overtake any other type of magic. Rather than evoking elements or conjuring force, these wizards exercise their magic by intimately controlling and manipulating paper, which they typically carry in a wheeled bag. For example, rather than shooting a bright streak of light that explodes in a Fireball, they will send forth a compact ball of paper that expands into a whirling blast of slashing sheets.
They will also obsessively consume and collect books, particularly spellbooks. A common joke among other schools of wizardry is that, "It's safer to steal gold from a Red Dragon that a book from a Paper Master."
Avid Readership
2nd-level Paper Master feature
Your extreme expertise in reading allows you to easily comprehend and copy spells you find in scrolls or spellbooks. When you find a wizard spell of 1st level or higher, you can add it to your spellbook regardless of level, it takes only a minute per level of the spell, and costs only 1 gp per level of the spell.
Paper Control
2nd-level Paper Master feature
Rather than summoning magical effects from the Weave, you magically control or create paper to cause these effects.
Whenever you cast a wizard spell, it does your choice of piercing, slashing, or bludgeoning damage instead of any other type of damage.
Pages of Casting
2nd-level Paper Master feature
When you cast a wizard spell from your spellbook, you pull the page containing that spell from your spellbook and use it as a focal point for the magic of that spell. That page will later reappear in your spellbook, but it has been drained of its magic. As part of conducting a long rest, you re-write each spell you cast that day, restoring each page’s magic.
You prepare all the wizard spells from your spellbook that are a level for which you have spell slots.
Once you cast a wizard spell from your spellbook, you can’t cast that spell that way again until you finish a long rest.
Bibliophilic Expertise
6th-level Paper Master feature
Your arcane affinity for study grants you enhanced skill in your area of expertise and in learning languages.
You gain proficiency in your choice of Arcana, History, Nature, or Religion. If you already have proficiency in that skill, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check that uses that proficiency instead.
You learn two languages of your choice. Additionally, it takes you half as much time to learn new languages.
Spell Cards
10th-level Paper Master feature
Whenever become a target of a spell that requires a saving throw or attack roll and you pass the saving throw or the attack misses, or you counter or dispel a spell, you can channel a portion of the magic of the spell into a card. That card becomes a Spell Card, from which you can copy spells as though it were another wizard's spellbook. The Spell Card loses its magic after 1 week.
Paper Storm
14th-level Paper Master feature
Your mastery of the Paper Arts is such that you can perpetually cause sheets of paper to orbit around you, and grants you incredible control of spells you have recorded.
As a bonus action, you can bring out your paper storm or end it. While it is active, you have half cover from all sources outside your space, and the paper interferes with vision and deflects attack.
You also gain the ability to cast spells from your Spell Cards regardless of if it's a wizard spell. While holding a Spell Card, you can use that Card as a focus to cast the spell contained in the Card as though it were a wizard spell. Doing so consumes the Spell Card.
