Monk
Base Class: Monk

You have spent time learning techniques for countering magic users.

Know thine enemy

To be truly successful as a monk of this tradition necessitates the learning and understanding of the arcane and those that utilise it. When choosing this tradition at 3rd level you gain proficiency in Arcana.

Deflect Magic

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can spend 1 ki point to use your reaction to deflect a magical effect that deals non psychic damage to you. When you do so, the damage you take from the effect is reduced by 1d10 + your Wisdom modifier + your monk level.

If you reduce the damage to 0 you also ignore any additional effects.

Using this ability does not change the outcome of anything else affected by the magical effect.

Counter Casting

Beginning at 6th level, you have learned special strikes made to prevent the casting of spells. You learn the following techniques;

Seal the lips

After hitting a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 1 ki point to attempt to silence a creature. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your ki save DC or become silenced for 1 minute. While silenced a creature cannot produce sounds from its mouth and cannot complete the verbal components of a spell. The target can attempt the saving throw again at the end of their turn. On a success the effect ends.

Calm the body

When a creature that you can see starts casting a spell with a Somatic component, you can spend 1 ki point to use your reaction to make an unarmed strike against them. If the attack hits, the target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw against your ki save DC. On a failure the spell they were attempting to cast fails.

Remove the unwanted

After hitting with an unarmed strike, you can spend 1 ki point to attempt to take a material component that you can see from the target of your attack. Make a Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check contesting the target's Dexterity (Acrobatics) or Strength (Athletics) check (target's choice). On a success, you take the material component from the target.

Cut the Weave

At 11th level, you have learned how to cut through the weave using ki. As an action, you can spend 1 or more ki points to touch a creature or object and try to end a spell affecting it. If the spell is a Cantrip or the spell's level is less than or equal to the number of ki points spent, the spell ends. Otherwise make an ability check using your Wisdom modifier. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a successful check, the spell ends.

You can use this ability on yourself to remove a spell even if the spells effect would normally mean that you couldn't (i.e. if you was dominated, paralyzed or incapacitated).

Magical Blank

At 17th level, you have become an expert at using your ki to deflect magic. You gain the following abilities;

Emptiness of mind

Both you and anything you are holding cannot be targeted by divination spells unless you choose to be.
As an action, you can touch a creature and spend a number of ki points to apply this effect to another creature for a limited amount of time. This effect lasts a number of hours equal to 8 times the number of ki spent.

Reflect Magic

After using your Deflect Magic ability, you can spend 1 ki point to redirect the damage to another target within 15ft of you. The damage dealt is equal to the amount of damage you reduced using the ability. If you removed additional effects by reducing the damage to 0, you can also pass those effects onto the target. You can spend additional ki points to increase the range of this ability at a rate of 1 ki per 15ft.

Redirect Spell

When you use your Calm the Body ability, instead of causing the spell to fail you can spend an additional 2 ki points to change the target of the spell. The new target must be within the parameters of the spell.

Free from Magic

You can cast the Antimagic Field spell for 12 ki points.
