Base Class: Wizard

Deciding to focus more on the baser elements found throughout nature, those who practice in the tradition of Elemental Magic devote themselves to understanding these elements. Through their understanding, they learn to control, transfer, and redistribute these powerful forces of nature. It teaches that the forces of nature are not ones that simply destroy, but instead can be channeled appropriately, even altered as these forces are simply energy.

Many practitioners of Elemental Magic often interact with druids, and are considered to be sages, studying in seclusion in high mountains, islands, or deep forests. Not all live in seclusion however, as others seek to teach the select few about the power of the elements, as some have given into their studies and the chaotic nature of the world. There is always the danger of giving in towards understanding the power of these elements and giving in to their destructive nature. Thus it is always important to learn from the past, lest the mistakes repeat themselves.

Elemental Savant

Beginning when you select this tradition at 2nd level, the gold and time you must spend to copy a spell which utilizes fire, cold, lightning, or thunder damage into your spellbook is halved.

Energy Shield

Starting at 2nd level, when you take damage of either fire, cold, lightning, or thunder, you absorb some of the residual energy and utilize it as a shield. For the next round, the next melee take against you inflicts damage to the attacker equal to 1d8 + your wizard level of that damage type. This shield dissipates following the damage being dealt to the attacker.

Power Conversion

Beginning at 6th level, you gain the ability to change one spells damage type of cold, fire, lightning, or thunder to a different form (either cold, fire, lightning, or thunder).

You can do this a number of times equal to your intelligence modifier until the next dawn.

Summon from Beyond

At 10th level, you add the Conjure Elemental spell to your spellbook, if it is not there already. You can cast conjure elemental without expending a spell slot. When you do so, any concentration checks made to maintain control over the elemental are at advantage.

Once you cast Conjure Elemental in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest, though you can still cast it normally using an available spell slot.

Maximum Overload

Starting at 14th level, when utilizing your Energy Shield feature, you are able to build up a resistance to the damage as part of taking the triggering attack, and ale to channel that into a spell. You gain resistance to the damage type related to the Energy Shield for 1 minute and the next time you cast a spell that uses that same damage type (which cannot be altered by the Power Conversion feature), you can choose to make that spell do maximum damage. Once the spell is cast at maximum damage the resistance to that damage type fades as does the shield if still up.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
