Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of the Hōjutsu train ceaselessly to combine their martial arts ability with the use of a ranged weapon, namely the hand crossbow (or a single one-handed firearm). These monks are often hired killers and assassins who hone their ki abilities to push through pain and cheat death in the pursuit of their targets.

Unlike other monastic traditions, Way of the Hōjutsu monks work in isolation and do not cultivate schools or monastic institutions. The only time these monks will come together is at a designated neutral ground, usually called Elysium or Sanctuary. Outside of this safe location, any of them could be hired to kill any (or even all) of the others, so friendships are exceedingly rare.

Hōjutsu

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn how to perfectly combine ranged combat with your martial arts abilities. You gain the following benefits;

• You gain proficiency with hand crossbows (or a single one-handed firearm) if you do not already have it.
• Hand crossbows (or chosen firearm) count as a monk weapon for you.
• Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls with a hand crossbow (or chosen firearm).
• You ignore the loading property for hand crossbows (or chosen firearm).

Additionally, starting at 5th level:

• Hand crossbows (or a single one-handed firearm) count as a melee weapon for the purposes of the Stunning Strike feature, but may only be utilized while you are in melee range of the target.

Nanakorobiyaoki

Starting at 6th level, you are able to continue fighting through almost the most grievous of wounds. When you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can expend 1 ki point (no action required) to have 1 hit point instead. You cannot use this feature if you are unconscious. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

If you expend an additional ki point as part of using this feature, you can move up to half your movement speed as a reaction. This movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks.

Busōkaijosuru

At 11th level, you have learned to chain your ranged attacks together. When you hit an enemy with a ranged attack, you can spend 1 ki points to make a ranged attack against another (different) target within 30 feet of you.

Additionally, you can spend 2 points as a reaction and make an attack against any enemy who hits an ally with an attack, as long as that enemy is within 30 feet of you. These ranged attacks can only be made with a hand crossbow. (Or, your chosen firearm.)

Issekinichō

By 17th level, you have learned to turn being wounded to your advantage. When you take damage from any weapon attack, (within your reach), you can spend a ki point as a reaction, to attempt to disarm your attacker. The attacker must make a Strength saving throw against your ki save DC. You can expend an additional ki point to have them make the save at disadvantage.

On a failure they are disarmed and you may kick the weapon to any square adjacent to you, of your choosing. Alternatively if you have a free hand, you may instead choose to capture the disarmed weapon in that hand.
