Base Class: Blood Hunter
Throughout the centuries using their own life essence as a catalyst for the power needed to preform magic, the ability to use the blood of others to preform their craft was inevitably stumbled upon from time to time. Preforming blood magic in this manner not only allowed a Blood Hunter preform their original form of magic, but the properties of the being whose blood was used could be temporarily imbued upon the caster. However, use of this method was banned within all orders of Blood Hunters, because utilizing the blood of others was considered to be a dark magic, going against the Blood Hunters purpose of hunting dark and evil beings.
Even still, many blood hunters would discover and begin experimenting with these methods in secret, most being cast out and shunned for their actions. Some would only use the blood of their enemies as a means of justification for their transgressions against the Orders rules, others held no such limitations, and would seek the blood of any being that they believed they could attain power from.
When a group of Blood Hunters in the Order of the Mutant discovered this method and became obsessed with mutating themselves with the blood of others to gain their abilities, they were outcast from the order. But they were not deterred. Eventually, this group developed the Blood Binding Ritual, a ritual that would permanently imbue themselves with the properties of a beings blood. They performed this ritual using the blood from a powerful sorcerer, combining the powerful abilities of a blood hunter with the nearly limitless potential of a sorcerers magic. The power they attained from this allowed them to rise up and amass followers which they used to build their own separate order, The Order of Blood Collectors.
Members of this order are initiated through a Blood Binding Ritual with the blood of a sorcerer, which they must attain themselves. Though the ritual itself is taught only to those high within the order. Even still, all members collect vials of powerful blood obsessively, hoping to one day learn the ritual themselves, and utilizing it to gain temporary benefits and power their magic abilities.
Collector of blood
Beginning when you join the Order of Blood Collectors at 3rd level, you begin to practice different methods of blood retrieval, and receive tools capable of retrieving blood from a target while causing little to no sensation, so blood can be retrieved stealthily.
Additionally, you receive an enchanted vial belt with two primary enchantments.
1. A holding enchantment so that there is no limit to the amount of Blood Vials able to be carried at a time.
2. A standard ward capable of protecting the vials from most impacts.
Sorcerer Blood bonding
Upon initiation into this order at level 3, you are given just a taste of the power one can attain through the usage of the blood bonding ritual.
Your blood is magically bound to the same well spring of magic connected to the sorcerers blood used in the binding ritual, however the actual blood of a sorcerer does not physically flow through your veins, therefore, while you are able to learn the same magic as a sorcerer, the energy to power that magic must come from somewhere else.
When preforming a sorcerer spell, the spell level correlates to the amount of blood vials, or hit points of damage, you must pay to power the spell.
(Cantrip = 1/2 Blood vial/1 HP damage//Level 1 spell = 1 blood vial/2 HP damage//Level 2 spell=2 Blood Vials/3 HP damage etc.)
At higher levels, you learn to extract more power from blood vials, at which point one vial is able to power higher level spells, detailed in the section titled "Mastery of Blood Magic"
Mastery of Blood Magic
Over time, as you practice and develop your skills in blood magic, more abilities are revealed to you as you improve upon others.
Life Essence Retrieval. At 3rd level you learn to retrieve the power within the blood of a being. This power can be used to cast spells rather than paying in your own life essence through loss of HP. At this level one vial of blood is required for each level of a spell being cast.
Improved life essence retrieval. At 7th level your ability to retrieve life essence from the blood of other beings is improved. It now cost half as much blood vials to cast spells, and cantrips can be cast without any blood cost.
Master Life Essence Retrieval. At 11th level you have mastered the art of retrieving life essence from the blood of other beings. You can now attempt to use another beings life essence to cast spells without physically possessing their blood, by drawing upon their life essence through touch. Additionally, you can not cast up to level one spells without any blood cost.
Blood Ability Extraction
At 3rd level, you are able to drink the blood of a being in order to gain specific affects relating to the attributes and/or abilities of the being from which the blood originated.
As with most magics, intent guides, but does not always control, results. When drinking blood to gain specific abilities or attributes, your level determines how likely you are to succeed, and the amount of effects you are likely to draw from drinking the blood.
Once blood is drank, the effect last for 6 hours, or until finishing a long rest.
Brand of Essence Drain
At 11th level your brand of castigation becomes a brand of Essence drain. In addition to its regular effects, after branding an enemy you may roll your hemocraft die once at the end of each turn, beginning on the turn in which the foe is branded. The foe is dealt damage equal to the amount rolled, and you gain life equal to that amount.
Additionally, the bond between your essence and theirs gives you knowledge of their whereabouts at all times. At 15th level, you are able to attempt your blood essence withdrawal on a branded foe to power your spells without touching them.
Blood Curse of Necrosis
Curse the blood of a creature to begin to curdle and coagulate. Causing loss of movement in the affected limbs, as well as 4d6 necrotic damage at the end of each of their turns.
Amplify. The curse spreads throughout the creatures body at a rate of 1ft per creatures turn, doing double damage once the affected area reaches the head or heart.
Blood Binding ritual
Permanently bind a beings blood to an others' with a ritual requiring 6 rare crystals, 3 vials of each beings blood, and 30 minutes of strong concentration.
Use the same method as the Blood Property Extraction ability, with a +7 to the property extraction roll, to preform this ritual in which any number of properties may be attempted to be attained. Any side effects are also permanent.
Upon teaching this ritual to a member of the Order of Blood Collectors who reaches the required rank, a secret is also revealed.
This ritual can be preformed with the singular intent of binding the life essence of two beings. When done this way, a persons life can be extended, or even restored after death, and one persons energy can be used to empower the others. However, the two become permanently bound in spirit. Injury to one affects the other, emotions become intertwined, thoughts can be shared, and the death of one would create a pit of unshakable despair within the other.
Blood Weaponry
Use the blood of a being to create weapons.
These weapons deal magic and/or physical damage based off of your intelligence modifier. Therefore able to bypass magic and physical resistance, though cannot inflict both at the same time.
Additionally, they can be imbued with the attributed or properties of the creature the blood originated from.
(Example: Dragon blood inflicts damage based on dragon breath ability. / Goliath blood gives wielder increased strength. / Triton blood allows wielder to breath underwater. / Vampire blood causes though damaged to become vulnerable to radiant damage./ etc.)
