Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Someone close to you has died, and you hold yourself responsible. You have sworn to resurrect them, to return them to life. Slowly you gain proficiency in the revival of the fallen. You practise on every possibility, all with the goal in mind to one day restore your fallen loved one. You'll do pretty much everything to achieve that goal. Of course, the first tries will not completely work, producing what some people might call monsters. You, however, see them as a product of your training, and a stepping stone towards your ultimate goal. Whether or not you end up using your raised dead or immediately return them after having practised is up to you.

Tenets of the Oath

Practise makes perfect. You'll take any opportunity to practise your arts. If someone dies, and it's within your capabilities to restore them, you'll try to. Whether or not you succeed is not important.

No matter the cost. You don't care what it takes to achieve your goal. If a hundred people die in your quest to revive the one your care about, that's a trade you're willing to make any day.

Oath Spells

Your continued practise in the art of resurrection leads to greater and greater proficiency. This is reflected in an increasing amount of spells you can cast to heal people, revive them, and raise the dead. Your knowledge of healing even grants you the ability to achieve the reverse effect in some cases, ripping their soul apart, and then stitching it back together to revive them.

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of Devotion Spells

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Revert Injury. You use your knowledge of resurrection to restore someone's body. You can only use this feature when the target has taken damage within this round of initiative. You repair the targets body to half the amount of hit points the target had before the last time the target took damage (in other words, heal by half the last amount of damage taken). This ends your turn.

Restore Injury. You use your knowledge of resurrection to reverse the effect of healing on the target. You damage the target by the amount the target has been healed in the last 5 minutes.

Improve Body. You use your knowledge of resurrection to heal someones body beyond their normal capacity. For the next minute, their highest physical stat modifier is increased by 1.

Bind Soul

Starting at 7th level, your training in resurrection has taught you much about the human soul, and how to reattach it to a body. As an action, you can take the soul of a willing, human target and attempt to reattach it to a different, human body. Because the target's soul can't be too strongly attached to their body for this to work, he/she has to have either been damaged so that they have less then 1/5th their max hp, or for some other reason have a soul that's only loosely attached to their body.

If these conditions are met, you can attempt to rebind the soul. If the target you're trying to attach the soul to is unwilling, the soul rolls a wisdom check against the body's wisdom saving throw. If the soul succeeds, it is attached to that body. Every turn, the wisdom checks need to be redone. If at any point the body's owner wins, the soul is returned to it's natural body. When in the foreign body, the soul can both move and use the body as their own, and/or deal 3d10 psychic damage as an action.

When the target is returned to their own body, both targets are paralyzed for 1 turn.

The target can be yourself. You can use this feature once per long rest. Using it costs a 2nd level spell slot.

Protect from Death

Starting at 15h level, when you or a target within 1.5m drops to 0hp, you can quickly revive them as a reaction. This leaves them at 1 hit point.

You can use this feature once per long rest.

Mastery of Resurrection

At level 20, death isn't a word you know anymore. You can't die of old age, and your body stays in good condition. You can cast resurrection without needing a spell slot, or using up a diamond worth 1000gp, once per day. You still need the diamond, but you're good enough at resurrection not to use it up.
