Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Shadowdancers can harness the power of magic to increase their stealth abilities. Enigmatic and dangerous, these uniquely skilled rogues are able to blend seamlessly into the shadows in ways that a normal rogues cannot, striking without warning - sometimes with supernatural speed.
Operating in the border between light and darkness, shadowdancers are nimble artists of deception. They are mysterious and unknown, never completely trusted but always inducing wonder when met.

This is an adaptation of the shadowdancer prestige class from D&D 3.5e rebalanced for 5e.

Hide in Plain Sight

Starting at 3rd level, you learned how to hide in shadows even while being observed. As long as you stay in dim light or in darkness, you can hide yourself from view in the open without anything to actually hide behind. You cannot, however, hide in your own shadow. While in darkness, you are invisible to any creature that relies on darkvision to see you in that darkness.

Shadow Manipulation

At 3rd level, you can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet.

Additionally, you can create visual illusions from surrounding shadows. As an action, choose a point in dim light or darkness you can see within 60 feet of you. You create an illusion as described in the arcane spell silent image. This illusion can only be composed of shades of gray. This spell-like effect end if the illusion enter an area of bright light.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Shadow Step

At 9th level, you gain the ability to step from one shadow into another. When you are in dim light or darkness, as a bonus action you can teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in dim light or darkness. You then have advantage on the first melee attack you make before the end of the turn.

Summon Shadow

Starting at 13th level, you can detach your shadow from your feet.

As an action, you gives life to your own shadow for 1 hour, or until you lose your concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell). The summoned shadow appears in an unoccupied space that you can see within 5 feet of you. It cannot be turned, rebuked, or commanded by any third party. Your shadow uses the shadow statistics (see the Monster Manual), with the following changes:

  • Unlike a normal shadow, your shadow matches your alignment and serves as your companion.
  • It appears with a number of temporary hit points equal to half your rogue level.
  • It shares your intelligence and wisdom score and can communicate intelligibly with you using sign language or Thieves’ Cant.
  • You always know the location of your shadow, and it always know your location.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

On your turn during the effect, you can bring back your shadow to your feet by spending a bonus action. The shadow teleport back to an unoccupied space that you can see within 5 feet of you.

Umbral Cloak

Starting at 17th level, you learn how to cover your body in a veil of shadows and silence.

As long as you stay in dim light or in darkness, you leave behind no tracks or other traces of your passage.
While you are in darkness and hidden from a creature, making an attack doesn't reveal your position.
