Base Class: Barbarian
Usually pacifists or friendly wanderers by nature, these barbarians try to use words before fists and goodwill before violence, instead of vice versa. Whether they be charismatic and kind, or quiet and gentle, the Path of the Gentle Giant is for those that do not wish to fight... but they will if necessary.
With powers over persuasion and a wide range of abilities to protect others, the barbarians of this path are able to mitigate and control the damage of the battlefield. While they might be peacemakers, diplomats, or wise hermits by spirit, all those who truly anger these barbarians should beware of the anger of a gentle soul.
Rage without Anger
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you are able to maintain the abilities of your rage without resorting to violence. Even if you do not attack a hostile creature or take damage on a turn while raging, your rage is still maintained.
Intervention
Beginning at 3rd level, you can rush in between fights and prevent further violence. As a reaction when a creature you can see takes damages from an attack within a distance of your movement speed, you may move up to your movement speed towards the creature and take the damage instead.
In addition, you gain proficiency with persuasion.
At 6th level, you may add your Strength modifier to your charisma checks.
Reckless Friendship
At 6th level, your personality is so endearing or wise, that it is really hard for people to want to hurt you. Whenever you use reckless attack, you may make a persuasion check contested against insight checks by all creatures of your choice within 30 ft of you. Any creatures you beat on this check will not gain advantage against you because of your reckless attack feature and will instead gain disadvantage on all attacks against you until the start of your next turn.
You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Consitution modifier (minimum of +1).
You regain all uses of this feature after a long rest.
Giant Helping Hand
At 10th level, you have better learned how to help people without dealing damage. As part of the reaction you use when you use your Intervention feature, you may choose to heal the creature you protected a number of hit points equal to the damage you take on their behalf. If you do this, you also gain temporary hit points equal to twice your Constitution modifier (minimum of +2).
You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1) and you regain all uses after a long rest.
Beware the Rage of a Gentle Giant
Starting at 14th level, you can tap into the potential of your rage when something truly makes you snap. As part of activating your rage, or as a bonus action while you are raging, you may activate this feature to gain the following benefits for 1 minute:
- You become immune to all damage
- All of your weapon damage rolls gain a bonus equal to your proficiency bonus
- You gain a bonus to all of your saving throws equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of +1)
After this feature ends, you immediately gain 1 point of exhaustion and take damage equal to half your current hit points (this damage cannot be prevented in any way). You may use this feature once per long rest.
