Base Class: Fighter
The unfettered are a group of warrior monks who have spent generations training in temples high atop mountains and deep in massive forests. A strict regimen of weapons practice, tactical warfare, and grueling exercise combined with daily meditation, philosophical study, and trials of spiritual endurance results in a unique fighting style often compared to the monastic martial arts typically employed by monks. The Unfettered rarely travel in large groups, but if you are lucky enough to be a visitor at one of their hidden temples you are likely to be dazzled by the sight of dozens of fighters dancing on the air and practicing their drills with uncanny grace and precision.
Ki
Starting at 3rd level, your training allows you to harness the mystic energy of ki. Your access to this energy is represented by a number of ki points. Your Ki points are equal to your fighter level.
You can spend these points to fuel various ki features. You start knowing two such features: Patient Defense, and Step of the Wind. You learn more ki features as you gain levels in this class.
When you spend a ki point, it is unavailable until you finish a short or long rest, at the end of which you draw all of your expended ki back into yourself. You must spend at least 30 minutes of the rest meditating to regain your ki points.
Patient Defense
You can spend 1 ki point to take the Dodge action as a bonus action on your turn.
Step of the Wind
You can spend 1 ki point to take the Disengage or Dash action as a bonus action on your turn, and your jump distance is doubled for the turn.
Unfettered Movement
Starting at 3nd level, your speed increases by 10 feet while you are wearing light or no armor. This bonus increases by an additional 5 feet when you reach fighter levels 7, 10, 15, and 18.
At 9th level, you gain the ability to move along vertical surfaces and across liquids on your turn without falling during the move.
Unarmored Defense
Beginning at 7th level when you are not wielding a shield and wearing no armor you can gain one of the following benefits, chosen when you reach this level:
-Vermillion Phoenix stance: Your AC is equal to 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Wisdom modifier
or
-Black Tortoise stance: Your AC is equal to 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier
Agile Target
- You gain proficiency in Dexterity Saving throws if you do not already have it. This feature has no benefit if you are already proficient in Dexterity Saving throws.
- You also gain Evasion: At 10th level, your instinctive agility lets you dodge out of the way of certain area effects, such as a blue dragon’s lightning breath or a fireball spell. When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail.
Fierce Soul
At 15th level you are able to enhance your offensive abilities with your ki. You gain two new ways to spend your ki:
- Flight of the Blue Dragon: At the cost of 3 ki points the range of your weapon attacks is dramatically increased until the beginning of your next turn. Any melee weapon attacks can also double as ranged attacks with a range of 60/120 feet as spectral waves of mystical force fly forth. If you are using a ranged weapon, its new short range is equal to its long range, and its new maximum range is doubled.
- Roar of the White Tiger: You can send your enemies reeling with a ferocious burst of fighting spirit. At the cost of 1 or more ki points you can add extra damage dice to all of your weapon attacks until the beginning of your next turn. The number of points spent determines the damage bonus.
- 1 ki point adds 1d4 points of damage and adds the magical property to your weapon for the purposes of damage reduction.
- 2 ki points is as above, but the extra die is a d6.
- 3 ki points is as above, but the extra die is a d8.
- 4 ki points is as above, but the extra die is a d10
- 5 ki points is as above, but the extra die is a d12
Abundant Spirit
At 18th level you have gained 2 new ways to spend your ki points. As an action you can spend 2 ki points to regain one spent use of your second wind. As a bonus action you can spend 5 ki points to regain one spent use of your action surge.
