Cleric
Base Class: Cleric

VERSION 1.1 NOTE

Thank you to UrsusOmega, and a few players in my group, for the feedback! This update has been a long time coming.

I've made some adjustments to this subclass to improve implementation. I am having difficulty implementing domain spells to be prepared automatically, as it seems some of the spells listed are not included in the Basic Rules. As such, I'm afraid a few spells won't be added automatically, including the following:

  • Aura of Purity
  • Create Food and Water
  • Goodberry
  • Heat Metal
  • Purify Food and Drink

Attempting to add these spells prevents me from sharing the Subclass publicly, since they are found in the PHB instead of the Basic Rules. Hopefully, I'll find a workaround. Until then, these spells will have to be added manually when leveling up. (Sorry!)

In the meantime, here are some of the following changes I've made:

Bonus Proficiencies: Changed implementation to add proficiencies automatically.

Soup for the Soul: Replaced +3 bonus to attack/damage and saving throws with different benefits. Considering attack and damage bonuses are typically offered via magic weapons or features that empower nonmagical/magical weapons, giving a buff tied to the character itself seemed a little strong/awkward.
Instead, I've given different bonuses to 14th level scaling. The attack and damage buff will also allow a creature to deal extra radiant damage equal to the cleric's Wisdom modifier, to a maximum of 3. Additionally, the saving throw buff will allow a creature to reduce the damage from any damaging effects resulting from a saving throw by an amount equal to half the cleric's level. This is kind of experimental, so I doubt it will stay.

Channel Divinity: Blessed Feast: Removed max healing benefit. Replaced it with gaining max healing from spending Hit Dice. Also replaced resistance to poison + advantage on saves against poison with advantage on Constitution checks and saving throws. Specified that eating a Blessed Feast again before the duration ends one of the previous effects. This applies to any Blessed Feast created by a Cooking Domain cleric.

Divine Strike: Improved implementation to scale automatically.

Deities of the Cooking domain are typically gods of harvests, hearths, and homes, including, but not limited to: Chauntea, Boldrei, Elebrin Liothiel, Berronar Truesilver, Cyrrollalee, and Hestia. Gods of this domain value the culinary arts, as a well-prepared meal opens up many avenues for improving the body and soul. Good diets lead to healthy lifestyles, warm dishes liven up a sad soul, and great feasts bring people together, friends and strangers alike.

Clerics of cooking study and practice the culinary arts wherever they go, eagerly sharing their recipes with others. These holy followers believe that all creatures are deserving of the basic necessities of life: food, shelter, and comfort. While their talents are aimed towards providing one of these basic needs, they seek to provide all that a creature needs for survival, and consider any who would deprive such necessities as foes. Cooking clerics can be found providing food for the downtrodden, leading raids into the vaults of gluttonous tyrants and monstrosities, or simply offering refuge for any who need it. For clerics of this domain, to provide good food is to emulate the divine.

Domain Spells

You gain domain spells at the cleric levels listed in the Cooking Domain Spells table. See the Divine Domain class feature for how domain spells work.

 9th greater restoration, flame strike

Bonus Proficiencies

When you choose this domain at 1st level, you gain proficiency with heavy armor and cook's utensils.

Soup for the Soul

Starting at 1st level, you can create a magical meal that heartens creatures who consume it. After completing a 10-minute ritual, which you can perform as part of a short rest, you can prepare a small meal for up to ten creatures, which can be poured into a physical bowl. If no such bowl is present, an ethereal bowl appears to hold the meal until it is emptied; no other substances can be added in this bowl. The meal can resemble a stew, a soup, or any liquid food that can fit in a small bowl. The liquid cannot spill out of this bowl unless the creature holding it wills it to spill out. This meal provides one of three possible benefits, listed later in this feature. Neither you nor another creature can choose a different benefit after the meal is created.

A creature can consume this meal as a bonus action, gaining one of the following benefits for the next 10 minutes (the creature chooses the benefit):

  • The creature gains 3 temporary hit points at the start of each turn. The number of temporary hit points granted by this feature increases to 6 at 8th level, then to 9 at 14th level.
  • The creature gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. This bonus increases to +2 at 8th level. At 14th level, the creature's attacks deal additional radiant damage equal to your Wisdom modifier (to a maximum of +3 damage).
  • The creature gains a +1 bonus to saving throws. This bonus increases to +2 at 8th level. At 14th level, when the creature must make a saving throw against a damaging effect, the creature can reduce the damage it takes by an amount equal to half your cleric level (rounded down). This reduction is calculated before damage would be reduced in half by a successful saving throw or other effect.

The meal can provide enough sustenance for 1 day of eating. It lasts for 8 hours, or until it is consumed. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Channel Divinity: Cornucopia

At 2nd level, as part of your Channel Divinity, you can manifest a large, ethereal object representing comfort and cooking, such as a horn of plenty, a boiling pot, or a roaring hearth fire. You can summon this object in a spot within 30 feet that you can see.

Creatures of your choice within a 30-foot radius of this object feel a sense of relief wash over them. Affected creatures have advantage on Wisdom saving throws, and whenever an affected creature regains hit points, it regains additional hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier.

As a bonus action while the object is summoned, you can restore 1d4 hit points to chosen creatures. The die changes to a d6 at 8th level, a d8 at 14th level, and a d10 at 17th level.

The object remains for 1 minute.

Channel Divinity: Blessed Feast

At 6th level, you can use your Channel Divinity to create a magical meal.

Over the course of a 30-minute ritual, during which time you have your holy symbol and a set of cook's utensils at hand, you create a feast of varied foodstuffs that can feed up to twenty creatures. Food created by this feature is immune to spoilage from any source, and cannot be tainted by any poisons or diseases, whether magical or non-magical. A creature that consumes this meal (a process which takes at least 1 minute) gains one of the following benefits for the next 24 hours (the creature chooses one):

  • The creature feels energized and capable. It adds half its proficiency bonus to saving throws it is not proficient in.
  • The creature grows hearty. It has advantage on Constitution checks and saving throws.
  • The creature feels revitalized. Whenever it restores hit points using its Hit Dice, it regains the maximum number of hit points possible from each die.

In addition, the feast provides both food and drink, and can sustain a creature for 1 day's worth of food and water. The benefit granted from this feature ends early if it consumes a meal created by this Channel Divinity option from any creature again.

Divine Strike

At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with the light and flame of the fiery hearth. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an extra 1d8 radiant or fire damage (your choice) to the target. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8.

Spirit of Goodwill

Starting at 17th level, an air of warm joviality follows you, empowering friendly creatures. At the start of your turn, creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you gain one of the benefits of your Soup for the Soul feature until the end of your next turn. Once on each of your turns, you can change the benefit to a different one (no action required).
