Base Class: Fighter
The Vanguard is a master of the shield, protecting allies no matter the cost.
Shield Bash
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you can use your bonus action to make an attack with your shield if you take the Attack action on your turn. The attack is 1d6, and uses your Strength modifier. You can use this feature twice per short rest. This becomes 4 times at 7th level, and 6 times at 15th. The damage die becomes a d8 at 7th level, and finally d10 at 15th.
Heavy Repercussions
At 3rd level, if you have a shield equiped, you gain resistance to non-magical ranged weaponry, such as bows.
Improved Shield Bash
At 7th level, your shield bash becomes a d8 and you gain two additional uses of it.
Oppressor
Starting at 7th level, you can train aggression towards you with brute force. When you use your shield bash, you can daze your target, forcing them to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target has disadvantage on attack rolls made on any target but you. On a successful save, this feature has no effect on the creature for the next 24 hours. You can use this feature 2 times per short rest.
Oppressor Save DC: 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier.
Ignore Pain
Starting at 10th level, your tolerance for pain grows drastically. You gain the following benefits:
- When you use your Action Surge, you gain Resistance to the next melee attack made against you until the end of your next turn.
- When you use your Second Wind, you gain a Temporary HP shield equal to half of the Health regained.
Reinforce
Starting at 15th level, when you roll initiative and have no uses of Oppressor left, you regain a use of the feature.
Improved Shield Bash
At 15th level, your shield bash becomes a d10 and you gain two additional uses of it.
Mass Spell Reflection
Starting at 18th level, you learn how to protect yourself and others from even the most destructive of forces. When a spell no higher than 5th level would hit you or an ally within 15 feet, you can use your reaction to dash to the location of the target and interpose yourself between it and the spell. The spell is reflected back at the caster for the full damage they rolled. You can use this feature once per short rest.
